System and Network Engineering

The Systems & Network Engineering Unit provides the technical input to the design, installation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of the campus LAN, Internet services and wide area links. It is also responsible for the operating system environments on central services and providing support for the maintenance of operating systems throughout UCC

Services

• Overall management of the planning, design and implementation of the technical infrastructure.
• Developing networking strategies to deliver the services required by students and staff throughout UCC.
• Developing standards for the operating systems and software environments to support the deployment of IT applications.
• Specifying, installing and configuring the operating systems and security features on central servers and maintenance and troubleshooting in relation to these.
• Provision of DNS, routing and security services for the deployment of email and other applications.
• Overall capacity planning and performance monitoring for the technical infrastructure.
• Providing third level advanced support and advice to Computer Centre staff and to systems administrators.
• Providing security advice and evaluation.
