Computer Centre Units

The UCC Computer Centre is divided into a number of units, responsible for carrying out specific IT functions within UCC:

• Electronic Publishing: The Electronic Publishing Unit provides advice and support for the development and implementation of websites and intranets (including the UCC website), for document management applications and for individual publishing projects.
• Enterprise Applications: The Enterprise Applications Unit provides and maintains IT systems to support the business and management information needs of the University. These include applications for transaction processing, management information and document management, and productivity tools, groupware products etc.
• Learning Technologies:  The Learning Technologies Unit provides support and leadership in computer applications for teaching and learning, including the Blackboard system.
• Senior Technical Officer:  The Senior Technical Officer provides advice to other Units within the Computer Centre on technical matters and leads/participates in specific technical projects aimed at the development and management of the technical infrastructure.
• Systems and Network Engineering: The Systems and Network Engineering Unit provides the technical input to the design, installation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of the campus LAN, Internet services and wide area links. It is also responsible for the operating system environments on central services and providing support for the maintenance of operating systems throughout UCC.
• Systems and Network Operations: The Systems and Network Operations Unit is responsible for the monitoring and day-to-day management of the central infrastructure including the campus LAN, HEAnet and Internet links and the central servers within the Computer Centre.
• User Services:  The User Services Unit provides helpdesk, information and training services to students and to academic and administrative staff. It also provides IT project management services for departmental technical development, systems administration services for end-user personal computer systems in academic and administrative departments, and manages the student IT Centres. Certain departments/faculties etc. have local Systems Administrators and this may determine the degree of involvement of User Services in those areas.
