Welcome.
Art History was established in UCC in October 2001 when the BA programme in the History of Art was offered for the first time. In five years it has evolved into one of the most successful and dynamic new subject areas in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences with ever increasing student numbers at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In 2004 the HDip, MPhil, and PhD programmes were launched, and in 2006 the taught MA in modern and contemporary art came on stream. Building on this momentum, Art History has organised an exciting series of events?conferences, public lectures, books, exhibitions, and theory institutes?to help promote visual culture in Cork and to strengthen links with scholars and institutions in other parts of Ireland and beyond. UCC is an ideal place to study the visual arts with the recent opening of the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, the School of Film Studies, and the Centre for Architectural Education.
