2002 is a year of elections in France --- the first phase of which was completed on 5 May, with the re-election of Jacques Chirac as President. Following an amendment to the constitution, he will serve for a term of five (rather than seven) years. On 6 May, Chirac appointed Jean-Pierre Raffarin Prime Minister (he replaces Lionel Jospin, the outgoing Socialist holder of this office, who resigned after being defeated in he first round of the presidential elections on 21 April). Parliamentary elections will take place in May and June. Will the parliamentary elections of 2002 spell the end of cohabitation? Follow the links below to find out more.
