Official Launch of IRCHSS Project on the history of Islam in Ireland at UCC - 27 October 2009

The research project on the history of Islam, funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences and based in the Study of Religions Department at UCC, was officially launched by Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Micheál Martin TD on 27 October, 2009. Representatives of the Muslim community as well as UCC students and staff were welcomed by UCC president Dr. Michael Murphy. Professor Peter Antes of the University of Hannover gave a guest lecture on the topic 'Islam in Europe - New Perspectives for the Study of Religions'. Members of the research team, Dr. Oliver Scharbrodt, Dr. Adil Hussain Khan, Dr. Vivian Ibrahim and Dr. Yafa Shanneik were also introduced to the public.
