What is BComm (Hons) International?

The Commerce (International) degrees combine business with language and culture to provide students with the necessary tools to work effectively in an international environment. The degree gives students an understanding of, and an ability to operate within, a wide range of business areas at home and abroad. It is a broadly based business degree that combines the study of a chosen language with its associated culture and business environment.

What will I be Studying?

Year 1	Accounting, Business Economics, Business Maths, Government, Law, Management, Management Information Systems (MIS), Marketing; as well as Language, Literature and Culture modules to the value of 15 credits Chinese Studies students take language and culture modules to the value of 35 credits and business modules to the value of 25 credits
Year 2	All subject areas as outlined in Year 1 are taken to the value of 35 credits, except Law. Language and Culture modules are taken to the value of 25 credits Chinese Studies students take language and culture modules to the value of 35 credits and 25 credits of business modules
Year 3	This year is spent studying abroad, normally within the Business Faculty of the international partner institution. Business subjects are studied in the spoken language of the institution. Students of Commerce with Irish are placed in a company with an Irish language focus, where they undertake projects based on work experience, or alternatively, they may study Business and Irish at the University of Aberdeen .
Year 4	35 credits from: Accounting, Finance and Information Systems; Business Economics; Food Business & Development; Government; Management & Marketing; Mathematics and Statistics; 25 credits in Language and Culture Chinese Studies students take language and other culture modules to the value of 20 credits and 40 credits of business modules.

Placement

In Third Year, students go abroad to partner institutions to study for the year. Participating countries include Austria, Canada, China, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Scotland and Spain. There are also a number of limited opportunities to undertake a work placement abroad.

Students of Irish/Gaeilge have the option fo either spending their Third Year in a placement with an Irish speaking organisation, or of spending the year at the University of Aberdeen or the University of Edinburgh. Those who opt for placement undertake two projects, one in Commerce and one in Irish.

Entry Requirements for BComm (Hons) International

Irish School Leavers:

HC3 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at H or O level in the Leaving Certificate from Irish, English, another language, Mathematics and two other subjects recognised for entry purposes. Specific language requirements include:

CK205: HC1 in French
CK206, CK207, CK208: HC1 in French, German, Gaeilge, Italian, Spanish, Latin or Greek
CK209: HC1 in Irish
CK211: HC1 in any language other than English

Mature applicants apply directly through the CAO and may be called for an interview. There are three places available on this programme for Mature students. See the Mature Student Guide for further details.

Postgrad. and Career Opportunities for BComm (Hons) International

Postgraduate Opportunities

Students of the programme have a range of postgraduate opportunities available to them at UCC including Higher Diplomas, MBS programmes, MComm, MSC, MPhil or MA by research. Students may also study Masters in programmes, including in language disciplines, in other universities.

Career Opportunities

The programme is designed so that graduates are attractive to organisations that do business internationally. These include careers in accounting, advertising, consulting, general management, marketing, insurance, tax, personnel, teaching and tourism.
