Latin

Latin is available in First Year and thereafter only as a 10-credit subject in the Single Subject programme.

Why Study Latin?

Latin has been at the cornerstone of Western education since the end of the Roman Empire in the West. Consequently, anyone with the intention of doing research in Medieval or Early Modern History, the History of Ideas, Medieval and Renaissance Art History, or Medieval and Renaissance Literature in any language would be well advised to take this course.

Subject Overview

Latin is taught from scratch using a textbook specially written for adult learners. In Second and Third Year, knowledge of the language is deepened by the study of specific authors.
