Greek
Greek is available in Frist Year and thereafter only as a 10 credit subject in the single subject programme.
Why Study Greek?
Ancient Greek is the European language with the longest continuous literary history, beginning with the clay tablets from Knossos (15th century BC) and continuing through the epics of Homer (c.8th century BC) to the writers of Byzantium in the 15th century AD (and continuing in another form into the modern period with Modern Greek). From the Renaissance onwards, moreover, Greek became an integral and influential part of the education system. Students interested in intellectual history or any of the national literatures from the Renaissance onwards should consider this course.
Subject Overview
Greek is taught from scratch using a textbook specially written for adult learners. In Second Year, the study of the language is deepened by courses on specific authors.
