Celtic Civilisation

Why Study Celtic Civilisation?

Celtic Civilisation offers a broad new perspective on early Irish culture. Requiring no previous knowledge or language skills, the subject reveals Ireland’s early European inheritance as well as its links with other Celtic regions. Celtic Civilisation opens up a rich world of myth, legend, poetry, history and traditions, providing an understanding of the past which enriches our view of the present.

Subject Overview

The aim is to develop student familiarity with a wide range of evidence about Celtic culture, both literary and historical, and from several geographical areas. The programme complements courses in related areas such as Archaeology, History or Irish Language. Moreover, it provides all students with interdisciplinary and analytical skills which are widely transferable

Postgraduate Opportunities in UCC

The Department offers Higher Diploma, Masters and PhD programmes in Celtic Civilisation and in Early and Medieval Irish.
