Overview of Microelectronic Design (PG Dip)

Microelectronic design is characterised by the need for continuing education and training. Today, most microelectronic designers require more than is delivered in a conventional four-year programme in electronic engineering. The aim of the Postgraduate Diploma (Microelectronic Design) programme is to provide advanced coursework for engineers who are engaged in the development and realisation of integrated electronic systems, without the significant research element associated with the MEngSc programme.

What will I be Studying?

The (Taught) Postgraduate Diploma in Microelectronic Design shares two of the three components of the Taught MEngSc in Microelectronic Design programme, namely the Coursework and a Preliminary Research Project, but not the Minor Research Project.

Students take course modules to the value of 50 credits and carry out a Preliminary Research Project to the value of 10 credits. A course module (5 credits) contains 24 lecture hours and 12 laboratory hours. Examples of topics covered include HDL Synthesis, VLSI Architectures, Advanced Data Converters, Frequency Synthesizers, Process and Device Modelling, VLSI Layout, ASIC Design, RF IC Design and Nanotechnology.

Entry Requirements

BE (Microelectronic), BE (Electrical/Electronic), or equivalent engineering qualification, with a minimum grade Pass.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL equivalent

Part-Time Taught Postgraduate Programmes
