Overview of (PG Dip)

This Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing is a full-time programme running for one year from the date of first registration and is designed to develop knowledgeable and skilled practitioners in this specialist area of nursing.

What will I be Studying?

Students chose their pathway at application stage.

The overall aim of the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing is to enable the student to be come a knowledgeable and skilled practitioner in the field of critical care nursing.

This one year programme consists of 8 weeks of theory (40 days full-time in UCC ) and a minimum of 683 hours of clinical practice over 35 weeks. The programme will take place over a twelve-month period commencing in September/October and must be completed within one calendar year. The programme is offered in partnership with the Health Service Providers.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course consists of three core modules

NU6048 Nursing Science
NU6005 Nursing Research
NU6053 Ethics for Specialist Practice

And four specialist modules:

NU6030 Cardiac & Intensive Care Nursing 1
NU6031 Cardiac & Intensive Care Nursing II
NU6045 Clinical Practicum in Cardiac & Intensive Care Nursing
NU6051 Critical Care - Fundamental Principles

Entry Requirements

This course is open to Registered General Nurses with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience (excluding courses) and six months experience in the specialty pathway.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent

Part-Time Taught Postgraduate Programmes

Please note that non-EU applicants are not eligible to study part-time programmes

What will I be Studying?

The overall aim of the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing is to enable the student to become a knowledgeable and skilled practitioner in the field of emergency nursing. Students on the Emergency Nursing Pathway take modules to the value of 60 credits.
