Overview of (HDip)

This 18 Month programme for registered general nurses leads to registration with An Bord Altranais (Nursing Board) as a Registered Midwife (RM) and the award of a Higher Diploma in Midwifery from University College Cork. The programme is full-time and is offered in partnership with the Cork University Maternity Hospital. Participants receive an 18 months contract of employment with the Health Service Executive. What will I be Studying?

The programme largely focuses on the role and activities of the midwife in providing care to healthy mothers and babies. Initially the focus is on normal pregnancy and childbirth and students are also prepared to deal with complications when they occur. There is one clinical practice module each year for developing competence in midwifery practice. On completion of the programme graduates can register as a midwife with An Bord Altranais
