Overview of Supply Chain Management (Lean SCM Black Belt) (PG Dip)

This programme is aimed at career minded practitioners who work in either supply chain or related functions at management level and who have responsibility for continuous improvement within their organizations. It would also suit those who have some experience in Lean management and wish to develop knowledge and skills in this area. The programme addresses an identified need in multi-national and indigenous companies for a part-time educational programme for managers that have responsibility for strategic and operational development of supply chains.

This programme adopts a blended learning approach, incorporating both classroom and distance education. On-line resources will be provided prior to workshops with further on-line resources provided after workshops. Each module will be supported by a 3-day workshop.

What will I be Studying?

Part 1

Candidates take 45 credits to fulfil Part 1 of the Postgraduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management. This is designed to provide a distinctive, practice-orientated programme, through which participants can develop an applied knowledge and comprehensive understanding of how supply chains operate.

MG6202 Strategic Planning and Implementation in Supply Chains (10 credits)

MG6200 Advanced Lean Tools and Practices in Supply Chain Management (10 credits)

MG6203 Leadership, Change and Innovation Management in Supply Chains (10 credits)

MG6201 Managing Lean Projects in Supply Chains (10 credits)

IS6401 Information Systems and Technologies in the Supply Chain Process Design and Improvement (5 credits)

Part 2

Candidates take 15 credits to fulfil Part 2 of the Postgraduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management. This is designed to integrate the various elements and issues studied in Part 1 and address the complexities inherent in supply chain strategies and projects.

FE6201 Globalisation Issues – Food and Bioprocess Supply Chains (5 credits)

MG6204 Capstone Module Seminars, Workshops, and Lean Black Belt Project (10 credits)

Masters Degree in Supply Chain Management - Lean SCM Black Belt (MComm SCM)

Students who achieve a Second Class Grade I Honour (an average mark of at least 60%) or higher in the Postgraduate Diploma in SCM are eligible to enter Part 2 of a Masters Programme in Supply Chain Management. A Masters (MComm) will be awarded on the satisfactory completion of a Minor Thesis.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have:

Minimum Second Class Honours in an Honours primary degree in a relevant area and at least 4 years relevant industrial experience (including cross-functional team lead experience)
OR
A portfolio of evidence containing the following: (i) at least 6 years of relevant management experience, including responsibility for teams and cross functional/supply chain teams, (ii) recognized professional qualification in a relevant area, (iii) application of learning or competence such as involvement in cross-functional projects, reports, reflective papers or journals
AND
Testimonials of learning or competence through sign-off by an appropriate signatory within the candidate's organization. Applicants must be in a position to affect organizational change.

Note: A 5-credit foundation module (FE5201) will be provided to candidates who do not have a prerequisite background in this area.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent
