Early Start and Full Academic Year Programme
International Education Office: Early Start and Full Academic Year Programme
Duration: Late August - Late May
What is the Early Start and Full Academic Year Programme?
The Early Start Semester and Full Academic Year programme combines a four week specialised pre-session course with a full academic year at University College Cork. During the pre-session course running through late August to late September visiting students are introduced to Irish Studies through a carefully guided approach to Ireland’s history, culture, civilisation and environment. Visiting students gain an insight into the nature of Ireland, past and present, and the manner in which the modern and the ancient may be examined side by side in an integrated programme. Once the pre-session course is completed in late September, students register for a range of modules which are offered over the full academic year.
Six separate Early Start programmes are offered as follows:
Early Start Semester in Irish Archaeology
Early Start Semester in Irish Folklore and Ethnology
Early Start Semester in History and Modern Ireland
Early Start Semester in Literatures in Ireland
Early Start Semester in Musics in Ireland
Early Start Semester in Management and Marketing in the European Union
What will I be Studying?
Visiting students may choose one of the above Early Start Programmes. The pre-session courses include exciting field trips which serve to bring alive the material taught in class. In late September visiting students will join their Irish counterparts and choose a selection of modules offered during the full academic year. The pre-session is worth ten credits. Additional credits will be gained for modules undertaken from late September to May.
Entry Requirements
The minimum G.P.A. requirement for admission to the Early Start and Full Academic Year Programme is normally 3.0 out of 4.0
