Application Procedure for Undergraduate Programmes
Applications for Medicine and Dentistry:
**Applications for Medicine and Dentistry should be made through our designated agent. Please contact the International Office for relevant details. Please note, agents have specific closing dates that differ to the general closing date of 31st of March.
For applications to all other programmes, please see following procedure:
The application procedure for Non-EU undergraduate students is outlined below. Applications are paper based, therefore completed applications should be sent to the International Education Office by post along with relevant supporting documentation before the specifed closing date. Applications will be reviewed from 1st November 2011. Please complete the following steps:
- Print and complete all relevant sections of the Non-EU Undergraduate Application Form 2012-2013 (112kB) in full
- Attach original or certified true copies of all relevant supporting documentation. Please see below for a full list of required supporting documentation.
- Include an application fee of Euro 40 (Bank Draft, Postal Order or Cheque). Cash and Credit Cards are NOT accepted
- Send your completed application to: International Education Office, Roseleigh, Western Road, University College Cork, Ireland

A 500 word statement Please submit with your application a 500 word statement on the following: “Reflecting on your interests, your qualities and your experience, why do you wish to undertake your chosen programme in University College Cork?”

IELTS or TOEFL score for applicants whose first language is not English.
(UCC TOEFL code: 0300 / UCC IELTS code: IE002) - 1 Passport sized photograph
- Official Translation to English of all documentation which is not in English.
Additional Required Documentation for Transfer Application
If you are applying to transfer to UCC from another University or College, please submit, in addition to above, the following:

Official description of all courses/subjects taken to date along with your academic transcript
If you are unable to provide any of the documentation listed above at the time of application, please attach a note advising us when you expect to forward it. Outstanding documentation should be forwarded to the International Education Office immediately when available.
Please note: Conditional offers will be sent to successful applicants who have not yet completed their studies. Conditional Offers are not acceptable for the issuing of visas.
English Language Requirements
All applicants whose first language is not English are required to sit either an IELTS or TOEFL test.
English Language Requirements for Undergraduate Degree Programmes:
- College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences: IELTS 6.5
- College of Business and Law: Business IELTS 6.0 and Law IELTS 6.5
- College of Science, Engineering and Food Science: IELTS 6.0
- College of Medicine and Health: IELTS 6.5
With no individual section lower than 5.5
Language Centre UCC
The UCC Language Centre can help you to acquire the English language skills you will need in your undergraduate or postgraduate studies. Courses cover reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, as well as focussing on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. These courses are either part-time (usually 4 hours per week, morning or evening) or full-time (20 hours per week, usually mornings only).

The UCC Language Centre is also an examination centre for IELTS with examinations taking place once a month. Intensive courses are offered by the Language Centre in preparation for the examination. The Language Centre has an excellent record in helping students achieve the results they require in IELTS. For more details click here
Special Requirements
CK103 - Music: Applicants are required to pass a special music test*
CK104 - Music: Applicants are required to pass a special music test*
* International applicants are permitted to send a CD with examples of their musical ability instead of appearing in person.
CK112 - Drama and Theatre Studies: Applicants are required to pass a special drama workshop and interview

Closing Dates
Undergraduate programmes
The normal closing date for receipt of applications is 31st March 2012.
Please note:
- Late applications will be accepted if the programme is still open
- There is no guarantee that there will be places available while your application is in the post
- If the quota is full we will not be able to process your application
- The academic year for undergraduate programmes begins in late September
SAT Institution Code
The Designated Institution (DI) code for the International Education Office in UCC is 4920. Please use this code number when sending score reports to the International Education Office.
Processing of Application
Acknowledgement:
The International Education Office will send an e-mail to the applicant to acknowledge the receipt of the application within 5 working days.
Registration, Verification and Decision:
- Applications are registered and all supporting documents are verified in chronological order. Incomplete applications will not be processed
- Applications are then sent to the relevant Department for consideration
- A decision will be made on individual assessment of each application. The International Education Office will send a Letter of Acceptance or Conditional Letter of Acceptance to successful applicants
Please note:
It can take approximately 3-5 weeks from the date of receipt of your application for either a letter of acceptance or a conditional letter of acceptance to be sent to you.
Letter of Acceptance:
A letter of acceptance is an important document which should be kept for immigration purposes, registration at UCC and throughout the duration of your study. This letter is also important for applicants from a visa requiring country for visa application purposes.
Conditional Letter of Acceptance:
A conditional letter of acceptance contains one or more conditions which need to be met by the applicant, for example: providing final results, a higher IELTS/TOEFL score, etc. A letter of acceptance will then be issued once you fulfill the condition(s) of the offer.
It is important to note that a conditional letter of acceptance will not be accepted when applying for a visa. Therefore you will need to obtain a letter of acceptance prior to beginning your visa application.

- Form One (Indicate whether you are accepting or refusing your place at UCC)
- Payment Details
- Checklist detailing the steps you need to take prior to arrival and registration at UCC
- Student Visa Requirements Information (This only applies to visa requiring students)
The following will be sent with the Conditional Letter of Acceptance:
- Form One (Indicate whether you are accepting or refusing your place at UCC)
- Checklist detailing the steps you need to take to obtain a Letter of Acceptance
- Student Visa Requirements Information (This only applies to visa requiring students)
