INTRODUCTION

The University Staff Recognition Awards Programme was originally recommended by the (former) Staff Enhancement and Professional Development Committee and was adopted by the President. The programme was inaugurated in 2010 and is now in its third year.  The Awards Programme was developed following a review of similar programmes initiated in other universities in the United States, Canada and Europe. In addition, committee members contributed to the development of the guidelines by drawing on their ideas and experience.  Recommendations from the Selection Committee that adjudicated on the awards in 2010 and 2011 have also been incorporated into the programme for 2012.
