Postgraduate Diploma Requirements
Students take 60 credits as follows:
Group 1:
Students must select 20, 30 or 40 credits from Group 1, selecting from the following:
- PH6012 Human Rights (10 Credits)
- PH6014 Philosophy of Mind (10 credits)
- PH6015 Territorial Rights (10 Credits)
- PH6018 East West Comparative Negative Ethics (10 credits)
- PH6021 East-Asian Aesthetics (10 credits)
- PH6023 Western Aesthetics (10 credits)
- PH6025 Feminist Philosophy and Social Theory (10 credits)
- PH6045 The Philosophy of Death and Dying (10 credits)
- PH6046 Autonomy, Responsibility, and Rationality (10 credits)
Group 2:
Students take 20, 30 or 40 credits from Group 2, selecting from the following:
- SC6604 Sociology of the Mass Media (10 credits)
- SC6621 The Sociology of Development and its Alternatives (10 credits)
- SC6623 Globalisation and Culture (10 credits)
- SC6624 Civilisation and Globalisation (10 credits)
- SC6625 Contemporary Ireland: Formations of Gender, Race, Ethnicity and Class (10 credits)
- SC6626 Sociology of the Public Sphere (10 credits)
- SC6627 Social Change and Civic Health (10 credits)
- SC6630 Issues in Criminology (10 credits)
- SC6631 Sociology of Sustainable Development (10 credits)
- SC6638 Borders and Social Justice (10 credits)
Postgraduate Certificate in Philosophy and Sociology (NFQ Level 9, Minor award)
Students who pass taught modules to the value of at least 30 credits may opt to exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Certificate in Philosophy and Sociology.
MA in Philosophy and Sociology (NFQ Level 9, Major award)
Students who pass taught modules to the value of 60 credits with an aggregate mark of 60% overall may opt not to be conferred with the Postgraduate Diploma and may transfer their registration to the MA in Philosophy in the same year (full-time) or by the next year (part-time).
