Course Details

The MA in Global Ethics consists of a one-year full-time programme or a two-year part-time programme in University College Cork. The cost of the programme has yet to be determined. The equivalent course was €5,400 for EU students and €11,620 for non-EU students in the last academic year. It is not anticipated that this cost will change significantly.

The Higher Diploma in Global Ethics consists of a nine-month full-time programme or a eighteen-month part-time programme. The cost of the programme has yet to be determined. The equivalent course was €3,000 for EU students in the last academic year. It is not anticipated that this cost will change significantly.

Entry Requirements


In order to be admitted to the MA in Philosophy and Sociology a candidate should normally have a Second Class Honours, Grade I, Primary Degree (or equivalent) in Philosophy, Sociology, Politics, or other relevant subject (including, for example, Social Sciences, Literature, Psychology, and others), or equivalent qualifications. Successful applicants must demonstrate evidence of having taken undergraduate or postgraduate modules in philosophy, or courses with philosophical relevance in social theory, cultural theory, or other relevant subject.

In order to be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma programme in Philosophy and Sociology a candidate should normally have at least a Second Class Honours, Grade II, Primary Degree (or equivalent). Successful applicants must demonstrate evidence of having taken undergraduate or postgraduate modules in philosophy, or courses with philosophical relevance in social theory, cultural theory, politics or other relevant subject.

Non-native speakers of English must have achieve a score of 6.5 in an IELTS test with no individual score below 5.5. Equivalent English language qualifications will also suffice.



Career Opportunities

The programme on global ethics is designed to offer an academic foundation in global ethics that will equip graduating students either with the capacity to pursue further academic interests or utilize its inter-disciplinary training to pursue vocational opportunities in the many fields associated with expanding global interdependencies and structures.
