Transatlantic Studies’ academics gather in UCC
Over 125 speakers from Europe, The United States, Canada, Ireland and the UK will present their papers in the annual Transatlantic Studies Association.
The Association is multi-disciplinary taking in the fields of History, International Relations, Literature, Culture, Economics and Urban Planning, Race and Migration and Security Studies and this year’s conference takes place 9-12 July. The Association’s Journal of Transatlantic Studies is published by Routledge and welcomes submissions from these fields. Further information can be found at: http://www.transatlanticstudies.com/
This year the plenary lectures are taken from the areas of US diplomatic history and literature and culture. They will be delivered by international award winning scholars:
- Professor Constance Post (Iowa State University) will deliver a lecture on "Particle, Wave, and Field: Momentum and the Transatlantic Turn in Literary and Cultural Studies"
- Professor Fredrik Logevall (Cornell University) will talk on the triangular relationship between the United States, France and Vietnam in a lecture: "Same Bed, Different Dreams: France and America in Vietnam"
The conference is organised by Professor David Ryan of the School of History. The benefits of such international conferences to the Cork region have been recognised by the Convention Bureau of Ireland and Professor Ryan has been designated a Cork Conference Ambassador.
