Possible module clusters

To assist students with the many available options in year 2, we have grouped the modules into suggested clusters. Please note modules maybe subject to change and may not run. These clusters are mere guides to possibilities and have no other status. In Year 3, we will make similar suggestions. Students are under no obligation to take the same cluster again.

A Crime, the state, policing and human rights

This is the more legally focussed possible grouping for those aiming to work in policing, politics or civil service.HI2044 Crime and media in Ireland. B Social deviance, social problems and moral conflict.

This cluster, centered around general moral conflict, would suit the student interested in going into social work, social research, social administration, politics or journalism/media. AP2101 Abnormal psychology. C Stigma, conflict, development and globalization.

This possible group of modules brings together global humanitarian concerns and would provide a good background education for anyone wishing to work on development, overseas aid, UN issues, diplomacy, military matters, or in a general global environment. LW2207 International human rights law. Culture, psychology and diversity.

This suggested cluster focusses on cultural, emotional, literary, sexual, linguistic and psychological aspects of social diversity. This grouping is suited to potential social workers, researchers and television or other creative professions. AP2101 Abnormal psychology. Semester 2, AP2104 Developmental psychology. E Spanish.

This cluster contains technical Spanish language modules plus selected associated cultural and literary modules: HS2022 Catalan language and culture 1. Semester 1, HS2023 Catalan language and culture 2. Semester 2, HS2101 Spanish language (ex-beginners 10 credits) Semester 1 & 2, HS2102 Spanish language (ex- non-beginners 10 credits) Semester 1 & 2.

F French.

This cluster contains technical French language modules plus selected associated cultural and literary modules. FR2101 Advanced French Language 1 (10 credits). Semester 1, FR2305 Cultural studies: postcolonial France. Semester 1, FR2306 Literary studies: the theatre of the absurd. Semester 2.

G German.

This cluster contains technical German language modules plus selected associated cultural and literary modules:  GE2101 Integrated language course (10 credits). Semester1 &2, GE2102 Linguistics 1 (10 credits) semester 1, GE2126 German literature from 18th to 21st century. Semester 1 & 2, GE2129 Drama and theatre of the 20th and 21st century. Semester1, GE2130 Constructing and deconstructing German national identity. Semester 2, GE2131 German business and culture today: Theory and practice. Semester 2.

H Italian.

This cluster contains technical Italian language modules plus selected associated cultural and literary modules: IT2101 Intermediate Italian (10 credits) semester 1 & 2 IT2102 The language of Italian media. Semester 1, IT2304 Primo Levi: The survivor and his work. Semester 1, IT2305 The Italian short story. Semester 2, IT2306 Italo Calvino and the interpretation of reality.Semester1, IT2308 Fascism and its legacy. Semester2, IT2309 Italian crime and narratives. Semester 2.

I Irish.

This cluster contains two technical Irish language modules: GA2001 Usaid agus Cruinneas na Gaeilge 1. (10 credits) Semester 1 & 2
