Recent Postgraduate Awards

Postgraduate Students in the School were awarded the following Scholarships in 2011:
Ms Chen Yuanyuan (Film Studies, Italian) was awarded a PhD Scholarship by The China Scholarship Council to write a thesis on "Rhythm in Chinese and European Experimental Animation: A Comparative Study".
Dr Pierluigi Ercole (Film Studies, Italian) was awarded a two-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship from IRCHSS to carry out a research project entitled "Projecting the Nation: Italian Cinema, Propaganda and Little Fascist Italies in Britain and Ireland".
Karel Matula (Yr 3 PhD, Hispanic Studies) was awarded an IRCHSS Scholarship for a PhD thesis project entitled: 'The Promotion of Painting as a Liberal Art in the Work of Diego Velázquez'.
Emer Clifford (Yr 2 PhD, Hispanic Studies) was awarded a Mexican Government Postgraduate Scholarship.
Oliver O'Hanlon (PhD Student, French) was awarded a scholarship to the value of €1,500 to cover tuition fees for the Irish Seminar, an annual three week summer school run by the University of Notre Dame's Keough-Naughton Institute of Irish Studies at their center in Dublin, 20 June - 8 July 2011.
Giorgio Guzzetta (Italian) was awarded the Digital Arts and Humanities (DAH) PhD Studentship, 2011-2012.
Andrea Raimondi (Italian) was awarded a CACSSS PhD Scholarship, 2011-2012
Sarah Hayden (PhD Student, French and English) (IRCHSS 2008-2011) was awarded a 10-month DAAD Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Centre for Degenerate Art/Forschungsstelle Entartete Kunst at the Kunsthistorisches Institut of the Freie Universitat of Berlin. Sarah will take up this Fellowship in January 2012. Sarah's thesis is entitled Resonances of the Radical in the Female Modernist Poetic.
Doctoral Showcase, UCC. 21 June 2011
Kerrill Costello (Yr 1 PhD, Hispanic Studies) won Second Prize in the 'Three Minute Thesis' Category of the Doctoral Showcase.
Oliver O'Hanlon (PhD Student, French) was a Finalist in ‘Three Minute Thesis’ Category of the Doctoral Showcase.
