Wireless Internet

All registered UCC students are allowed to connect their laptops, smartphones and tablets to the new eduroam Student Wi-Fi service. There is no longer a need to register before you connect. To have a device connected to the wireless network please follow the steps below.

Step One - Activate your Student IT Account

All students have a Student IT Account that allows them to use the Open Access IT Centre PC's. Go to the helpdesk in the Boole basement with your ID card and have the staff there set up your account. You will be given a randomly generated password. Log in to any of the IT Centre PC's and reset this password to something memorable.

Step Two - Configure your device

Go to the Automatic configuration section for the configuration files for all recent versions of Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX, Apple iPhones/iPads and Android devices.

N.B. your username is StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and the password is your Student IT account password. 

If you want to download the files to a USB drive in the Student IT Centres or you can download and run them at home from this site, and you will connect automatically once back on campus.

Configure automatically  

Download the file and enter your username : StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and Student IT Account password to connect to eduroam. 

If your device is not on any network, you should download the file to a USB key and transfer to your laptop or download this file at home before you travel.

 

Windows 7 and Vista

eduroam_w7_UCC.exe 

Do the following after you have run the relevant file:

  • In the start menu type Manage wireless networks and select.
  • Double-click eduroam and on the security tab choose the settings button
  • Untick Validate server certificate.

 

Windows 7

  • In the start menu type Manage wireless networks and select.
  • Choose Add and Manually create a network profile.
  • Enter the network name as eduroam and choose security type as WPA2-Enterprise.
  • Click Next and Change connection settings.
  • Select the security tab and choose the settings button
  • Untick Validate server certificate.
  • Under Select Authentication method choose Configure
  • Untick Automatically use my Windows... and click OK.
  • Click OK and OK again.
  • Click Advanced settings.
  • Select Specify Authentication mode and selet User Authentication
  • Enter your Student IT account details as StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and your password when prompted.

Windows 8 / 8.1

  • Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi networks in the bottom right hand corner. 
  • Enter your Student IT account details as StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and your password.
  • Choose Connect

Windows Phone

  • Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi networks in settings. 
  • Enter your Student IT account details as StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and your password.
  • Choose Connect

MacOSX  (10.7/10.8/10.9)

  • Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi networks in the top right corner.
  • Enter your Student IT account details as StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and your password.
  • Choose Connect.

Apple iOS iPad iPhone iPod Touch

  • Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi networks in settings.
  • Enter your Student IT account details as StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and your password.
  • Choose Connect.

 Android

  • Go to Wi-Fi settings and select eduroam.
  • Leave EAP method as PEAP .
  • Leave Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPV2.
  • Set Identity to your StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie.
  • Leave Anonymous Identity blank.
  • Set password to your Student IT Account password.

Kindle

  • Go to the home screen.
  • Select Menu and Turn On Wireless from the list of options.
  • Select Menu and Settings.
  • Select eduroam from the list of Wi-Fi networks.
  • Enter your Student IT account details as StudentNum@eduroam.ucc.ie and your password.
  • Choose Connect.

 

 

Windows XP - Will no longer be Supported by Microsoft  

As of the 9th of April 2014 Windows XP will not be supported by Microsoft.

Mac OSX 10.6 - No Longer Supported by Apple

Apple No longer supports Mac OS 10.6. 

Uprint allows you to print from your laptop, from home or from any location on campus. You can upload documents or specify web pages that you want to print.

Please note that you have 6 hours to release your job in an Open Access IT Centre, before it is deleted from the print queue.
