Portal@UCC FAQs - General

1 What is portal@UCC?

portal@UCC is the student information portal tailored to the needs of UCC students. This allows you to access information and the services you need for the coming academic year. The single portal sign-on will provide the required access to appropriate services for you.

You will also see RSS feeds which show UCC upcoming events and UCC News. Students may personalise links to their favourite websites. There is more on this later in the FAQ.

2 What is Single Sign On?

Single sign-on means that, once you have logged into the Portal@UCC, you do not have to identify yourself again when you want to access your student administration details or your student email account. You are automatically logged into these single sign-on applications when you log into the Portal@ UCC

3 How do I access Portal@UCC?

To log on you will need your:

• Username: Student Number
• Password: Portal Password

Access the portal logon page using the button below.

If you are new to UCC your portal password will be posted out to you with your registration information.

If you were in UCC last year your portal password is Ucc*xxxxx

Uppercase 'U' - Lowercase 'cc' - Asterisk 'shift + 8' - xxxxx is your current PIN

Note: Your Portal@UCC password is case sensitive.

4 Can I access Portal@UCC from home?

Yes, you can access Portal@UCC from anywhere you have the internet.

5 I can’t access portal@ucc from my place of work?

For security and other reasons, some work places block access to particular features of the internet known as ports. portal@UCC uses a number of these ports. If you cannot access portal@ucc from your work place it is most likely that access to port number 8443 is blocked by your employer. We cannot, at this time, do anything in UCC to avoid this. The only solution is to ask your local systems administration to allow you access this port.

6 Can I access Portal@UCC on all browsers?

The following browsers have been tested and work with the Student Portal:

Internet Explorer 7 /8 /9 / Safari / iOS 4.3 or higher

7 How do I print information from Portal@UCC?

Printing from the Portal@UCC is the same as printing from any Internet Browser; go to the menu at the top right and select the print icon. You may need to reduce the margins in Page Setup before you print or you may find that some of the letters at the edge of the page will be cut off.

8 Do I need to Log out of the Portal@UCC?

Yes. It is very important that you log off from the Portal@UCC and from any of the services you accessed within the portal e.g. Student Email. Check that ALL your browser windows are closed before you leave the PC.

9 What is my Portal@UCC username and password?

Username: Student Number

If you are new to UCC this year your portal password would have been posted out to you with your registration information.

If you were in UCC last year your Portal@UCC Password is Ucc*XXXXX where XXXXX is your current PIN

Portal@UCC FAQs - Password

1 What are my Username and Password for porta@UCC?

Your username is your student number

Your Portal@UCC Password is Ucc*XXXXX where XXXXX is your current PIN

When you log on first your Portal@UCC Password is in the following format: Ucc*XXXXX where XXXXX is your current PIN

Uppercase 'U' - Lowercase 'cc' - Asterisk 'shift + 8' - xxxxx is your current PIN

Note: Your new Portal@UCC Password will be case sensitive

2 What happens if I forget my Portal@UCC password?

Click on the [Forgot Password?] button on the Login page.

You will be requested to enter your student number and your secondary email address.  

When you enter these, click on the [Next] button. 

The system will then validate the student number and secondary email address you provided and, if valid, a new Portal Portal@UCC Password will be sent to your ‘secondary’ email address.

Security issue:  Ensure that you do not divulge your login details, including secondary email address, to others. Treat these details as securely as your online banking credentials.

3 I forgot my Portal@UCC Password and it says to enter my ‘secondary email address’, what is this?

Your Secondary email address is the email which you must enter in your MyStudentAdmin - this is where a new portal@UCC Password will be sent if you forget your current one.

4 Can I change my Portal@UCC password?

Yes, you may. To change your current Portal@UCC Password you must first log in to the Portal.
When your individual portal page is displayed, you will see a ‘Change Password’ link near in the top right hand corner.

Click on this link and a Change Password entry box is displayed showing your student number.

Key in your ‘current’ portal@UCC Password (Ucc*XXXXX where XXXXX is your current PIN )your ‘new’ portal@UCC Password and confirm your ‘new’ portal@UCC Password following the portal@UCC Password rules as displayed

5 My logon does not work, what do I do?

Step 1: Use the forgot Password facility. See above for information

6 Portal@UCC Password Rules

New portal@UCC Passwords must be at least seven characters/numbers long containing at least three of the following four types

- uppercase characters (A - Z)

- lowercase characters (a – z)

- numbers (0 -9)

- special characters (*/+    etc. ) “

3 How do I access Umail?

Umail is single sign on – Click on the Email icon and you will be brought straight to your Umail inbox.

Your UCC Umail calendar will work in the same way as your Umail.

My StudentAdmin is also single sign on: Click on MyStudentAdmin – You will have access to your student registration details, exam results, exam timetables and biographical details.

Print Account is a single sign on service. Click on the Print Account icon:

You may view your print account balance and top up your print account here by clicking the Print Account option and clicking Next.

7 How do I customise my favourites?

 When you click on Personalize you will be taken to the screen below

You can now add your favourite websites for easy access: 

These will now appear on your portal@UCC home page
