CK601 BE (Hons) Process & Chemical Undergraduate Information

The BE in Process & Chemical Engineering is a four year full time (NFQ Level 8) course and is fully accredited to the highest possible levels respectively by both Engineers Ireland (leading to ordinary membership - MIEI) and by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK) (to MEng -masters level). Central Applications Office (CAO) first round cut-off points for the course in 2011 are 440 (CAO course code CK601). This represents the highest entry points among the Process/Chemical Engineering degree courses on offer in Ireland through the CAO system.

The Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Process & Chemical Engineering at UCC provides graduates with a rigorous core chemical process engineering degree, but also offers specialist elective streams (in Energy & Environmental or Pharmaceutical & Biopharmaceutical) to give students the opportunity to add some specialisation in their area of interest.
• Graduates are highly employable in the pharmaceutical, food and other process industries, in design and manufacture of process equipment and processes and with engineering consultancy companies.
• The degree provides graduates with the necessary technical and interpersonal skills to work in any process industry.
• There is a continuing emphasis on the development of soft skills such as teamworking and presentation skills throughout the course including a year 2 module on technical communication skills.
• A six-month work placement between third year and fourth year provides undergraduates with valuable experience and insight into the work of a chemical process engineer, and helps provide them with the necessary skills and attributes to make a successful transition to a professional career following graduation.
