Howard Fox

Biography

Howard Fox is a botanist with a specialist skill in the identification of lichens and mushrooms developed during twenty years of taxonomic and field work in Ireland . He worked for many years as museum curator of the herbarium collections in the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin before starting this PhD studentship on epiphyte diversity. He has travelled extensively in Ireland and Northern Ireland exploring the landscape for fungi and lichens and expanding the knowledge of the species biodiversity of conservation designated and other lands. Also, he has made contributions to lichen exploration in the tropics.

He has published botanical research on various topics including bogs, bryophilous fungi, herbaria, the 19th century Irish lichenologist Isaac Carroll, the vegetation of Brackloon wood.  He maintains a special interest in seeing lichenicolous fungi in Ireland , and research on the edible fungi of Irish forests.
