The School of Pharmacy is delighted to announce the expansion of its range of non degree flexi option modules for the purposes of continuing professional development for 2011/2012: Modules on offer are outlined below
PF6501: Asthma
PF6502: Diabetes
PF6503: Introduction to Herbal Medicine
PF6504: Coagulation Management
PF6505: Cardiovascular Disease –Dyslipideamia and Hypertension
PF6506: Cardiovascular Disease – Congestive Heart Failure & Stroke
PF6507: Ophthalmology in Community Pharmacy
PF6508: Travel Health and Medicines
These modules are stand alone five credit modules. It is envisaged that in the future these modules would be combined with others to obtain a Postgraduate qualification i.e. a Certificate (30 credits), Diploma (60 credits) or a Masters degree (90 credits).
The modules will enable Pharmacists to deal with fundamental and more complex issues regarding Asthma, Coagulation, Diabetes, Herbal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Ophthalmology, Travel Health and Medicines.
The modules will consist of distance learning reading material, teleconferences and assignments. Some of the modules will require attendance at UCC. Students will also be required to collect case studies in logbook format.
At the end of each module students will be able to apply the knowledge to individual patients, providing better management and cost effective treatment to these patients. These modules will also prepare pharmacists for fulfilling their CPD requirements which are now mandatory under the Pharmacy Act. These modules will also prepare Healthcare Professionals for participation in the HSE initiatives regarding chronic disease management.
