Paul Ross Appointed Research Professor in UCC
Professor Ross will continue in his position as Head of the Food Research programme in Teagasc.
This is the first such appointment in UCC and it comes following the establishment of the Alliance in Food Research between UCC and Teagasc in 2010. Professor Ross has made a significant contribution to the success of APC where he engages in research, postgraduate supervision and other academic activities.
This new appointment recognises his outstanding research career in food biotechnology. Professor Ross has over 300 peer reviewed publications, he was awarded a DSc by the National University of Ireland in 2009, he was a joint recipient (the others included Catherine Stanton, Professors Ger Fitzgerald and Colin Hill) of the prestigious ELIE METCHKNOFF AWARD in 2010, and he was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in May 2010.
Much of Professor Ross’s research in Teagasc is in collaboration with UCC, particularly with the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre.
Welcoming the appointment Dr Michael Murphy, President of UCC said: ‘Appointment of Paul Ross as Research Professor strengthens our research links with one of our key partners, Teagasc, and enhances our research capability in the strategically important area of Food Research’.
