We, the Governing Body of University College Cork -- National University of Ireland, Cork ("the University") under and by virtue of the powers conferred on us by the above Act, do by this present instrument under the Seal of the University make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said University.

Given under the Common Seal of the University this Fourteenth day of December, 1999.

Statute C

The Statutes of University College Cork and Statutes A - B of University College Cork -- National University of Ireland, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I
Staff Appointments Procedures

1. The President shall be appointed in accordance with the provisions of Statute A, made on the twenty-first day of April, 1998.
   (a) The following University Officers shall be appointed by the Governing Body:
   Registrar and Vice-President for Academic Affairs
   Secretary/Bursar and Vice-President for Finance and Administration
   Librarian
   Vice-President for Research Policy and Support
   Vice-President for Planning, Communications and Development
   Such other Vice-Presidents as determined by the Governing Body.
   (b) Said appointment shall, in each case, be made after consideration of a report from a committee, specially established for the purpose, in accordance with regulations made or resolution passed by the Governing Body.
   (c) A committee established under this section shall carry out such interview and other procedures, including public advertisement, as shall be determined by regulations made or resolutions passed by the Governing Body, and which, in the opinion of the Governing Body, shall best ensure participation in the selection process by high-quality candidates from both within and outside the university. Said committee shall operate in such manner as the Governing Body may direct and its acts shall be subject to confirmation by the Governing Body unless the Governing Body otherwise directs.
3. (a) Professors, associate professors and other full-time permanent academic staff shall be appointed by the President
   (b) Said appointments shall, in each case, be made on the recommendation of a committee, specially established for the purpose, in accordance with regulations made or resolutions passed by the Governing Body, following consultation with the Academic Council.
   (c) A committee established under this section shall carry out such interview and other procedures, including public advertisement, as shall be determined by regulations made or resolutions passed by the Governing Body, and which, in the opinion of the Governing Body, shall best ensure participation in the selection process by high-quality candidates from both within and outside the university. Said committee shall operate in such manner as the Governing Body may direct and its acts shall be subject to confirmation by the Governing Body unless the Governing Body otherwise directs.
4. (a) Full-time permanent staff and full-time temporary staff to be offered contracts of longer than one year’s duration, other than staff referred to in sections 1, 2 and 3 hereof, shall be appointed by the President.
   (b) Said appointment shall, in each case, be made on the recommendation of a committee, specially established for the purpose, in accordance with procedures determined by the President.
   (c) A committee established under this section shall carry out such interview and other procedures, including public advertisement, as shall be determined by the President, and which, in the opinion of the President, shall best ensure participation in the selection process by highly-qualified candidates from both within and outside the university. Said committee shall operate in such manner as the President may direct and its acts shall be subject to confirmation by the President unless the President otherwise directs.
5. (a) Staff, other than those referred to in section 1 - 4 hereof, including full-time academic staff to be offered contracts of one-year’s duration or less, shall be appointed by the President.
   (b) The procedures for the making of appointments under this section shall be determined by the President.
6. Statute 34, Chapter I, is hereby revoked.

CHAPTER II

1. This Statute may be cited as Statute C of University College Cork -- National University of Ireland, Cork or Stat. C. of U.C.C.
2. This Statute shall come into operation on the Fourteenth day of December, 1999.
