Statute XCI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty second day of June, 1972.

Statute XCI.

Schedule

Statutes I. to XC. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Stipends of Certain Posts in Medical Faculty

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to XC. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the full-time professorships and full-time lectureships set out in this Chapter shall, as from the dates specified hereunder, be those hereinafter set forth.

  2. The amendments set out in this Chapter are effected with the consent of the present holders of the professorships and lectureships concerned.

CHAPTER II.
Librarian

The annual stipend of the Librarian shall be the same as that provided in Statute XC., Chapter I., section 3.(a).

CHAPTER III.
Increased Pensions

  1. The Governing Body has, in accordance with the provision of Clause 8 of the Pension Scheme annexed to Statute LXXIX., reviewed the pensions payable to retired participants in the Scheme and to the widows of former participants or retired participants. In consequence thereof the revised annual pensions set out below shall be payable as and from 1 January, 1971 (except where otherwise stated):

  2. The pensions set out in the foregoing section in respect of those who retired subsequent to the enactment of Statute LXXIX. are subject to the provisions of Clause 14 of the Pension Scheme annexed to that Statute.

  3. Any increases in pension granted in this Statute will be deemed to be part of any further increases that may become payable under the terms of Clause 8 of the Pension Scheme as amended by Statute LXXXV., Chapter I., upon the validation of the latter Statute.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Medicine No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Medicine No. 2.

  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The term "full-time" in this case shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the lectureship from holding and receiving a stipend wholly in respect of a full-time appointment of the kind specified in section 6 of this Chapter. He shall, however, be precluded from engaging in private practice or consultations in any form or retaining any fees which may be received by him in connection with his work.

  3. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 3.(a) of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended, shall also apply to the office.

  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provision of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

  5. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Medicine under the direction of the Professor of Medicine for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Medicine for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Medicine.

  6. The said lectureship shall be tenable only by a member of the medical staff of the teaching hospital recognised by the College and the University in which the Professor of Medicine has, as of right the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female, and is the medical practitioner in charge, and where the holder of the lectureship has been appointed to assist him.

CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Paediatrics

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Paediatrics.

  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The term "full-time" in this case shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the lectureship from holding and receiving a stipend wholly in respect of a full-time appointment of the kind specified in section 6 of this Chapter. He shall, however, be precluded from engaging in private practice or consultations in any form or retaining any fees which may be received by him in connection with his work.

  3. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 3.(a) of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended, shall also apply to the office.

  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provision of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

  5. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Paediatrics under the direction of the Professor of Paediatrics for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Paediatrics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Paediatrics.

  6. The said lectureship shall be tenable only by a member of the medical staff of the teaching hospital recognised by the College and the University in which the Professor of Paediatrics, as of right, the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female, as is the medical practitioner in charge, and where the holder of the lectureship has been appointed to assist him.

  7. The Lectureship in Paediatrics established by Statute L., Chapter IV., is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Psychiatry No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Psychiatry No. 2.

  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The term "full-time" in this case shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the lectureship from holding and receiving a stipend wholly in respect of a full-time appointment of the kind specified in section 6 of this Chapter. He shall, however, be precluded from engaging in private practice or consultations in any form or retaining any fees which may be received by him in connection with his work.

  3. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 3.(a) of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended, shall also apply to the office.

  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

  5. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Psychiatry under the direction of the Professor of Psychiatry for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Psychiatry for the College, and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Psychiatry.

  6. The said lectureship shall be tenable only by a member of the medical staff of the teaching hospital recognised by the College and the University in which the Professor of Psychiatry has, as of right, the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female, and is the medical practitioner in charge, and where the holder of the lectureship has been appointed to assist him.

CHAPTER VII.
Pension Scheme - Full-time Assistant

Statute LXXIX., Chapter I., section 7. (a) viii, is hereby amended by the substitution of the words "in a permanent capacity" for the words "for seven consecutive years" where they occur in the section.

CHAPTER VIII.

The lectureships established by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said lectureship had been included in Statutes I. to XC. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER IX.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to XC. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute XCI. of University College, Cork or Stat. XCI. of Univ. Coll. Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-second day of June, 1972.
