Statute LXXXIV.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this eighteenth day of June, 1970.

Statute LXXXIV.

Schedule

Statutes I. to LXXXIII. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to LXXXIII. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the professorships and lectureships set forth in this Chapter and of the Officers of the College shall, as from 1 June, 1969, be those hereinafter set forth.

  2. The annual stipend of the President shall be £6,225. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £530 per annum. In addition, he shall receive a non-pensionable allowance of £840 per annum in respect of the expenses of his office.

  3. The annual stipend of the Registrar shall be £830. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £530 per annum. The Governing Body may, at its discretion, pay a cash allowance equivalent to the pensionable value of this perquisite.

  4. The annual stipend of the Associate Professorship of Irish Language and Literature (Modern Irish Literature) shall be £3,075 increasing by annual increments of £135 to a maximum of £3,750.

  5. The annual stipend of each of the following part-time professorships shall be as set out hereunder:

    Professorships of Obstetrics and Gynaecology£1,300
    Professorship of Common Law, Real Property and Equity£1,070
    Professorship of Jurisprudence, Roman Law and Personal Property£1,070
    Professorship of Chemical Spectroscopy£980
    Professorship of Concrete Technology£980

  6. The annual stipend of each of the following part-time lectureship shall be as set out hereunder:

CHAPTER II.
Increased Stipends - Faculty of Dairy Science

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to LXXXIII. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the professorships and lectureships set forth in this Chapter shall, as from 1 June, 1969, be those hereinafter set forth.

  2. The annual stipend of each of the full-time lectureships set out hereunder shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 6 (a)(i), of this Statute:

    Lectureship in Dairy and Food Chemistry
    Lectureship in Dairy Economics
    Lectureship in Dairy and Food Engineering
    Lectureship in Dairy and Food Microbiology

    Lectureship in Dairy Technology, No. 2

CHAPTER III.
Increased Pensions

  1. The Governing Body has, in accordance with the provisions of clause 8 of the Pension Scheme annexed to Statute LXXIX., reviewed the pensions payable to retired participants in the Scheme and to the widows of former participants or retired participants. In consequence thereof the following revised pensions shall be payable to the persons named as and from 1 June, 1969:

  2. The pensions set out in the foregoing section in respect of those who retired subsequent to the enactment of Statute LXXIX. are subject to the provisions of Clause 14 of the Pension Scheme annexed to that Statute.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Medical Biochemistry

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a lectureship in the Department of Medicine to be known as the Lectureship in Medical Biochemistry.

  2. The said lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend of the lectureship shall be £945 per annum.

  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Medical Biochemistry under the direction of the Professor of Medicine for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Medical Biochemistry for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Medicine.

  4. The said lectureship shall be tenable only by a member of the medical staff of the teaching hospital recognised by the College and the University in which the Professor of Medicine has as of right, the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female, and is the medical practitioner in charge.

  5. The said lectureship shall, subject to the provisions of the foregoing section, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said lectureship had been included in statutes I. to LXXXIII. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER V.
Officers of Residence

Chapter XXIV. of Statute I. is hereby revoked, such revocation to be deemed to be effective as and from 1 October, 1970.

CHAPTER VI.
Faculties

Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended is hereby further amended by the addition of the subject Medical Biochemistry to the Faculty of Medicine.

CHAPTER VII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statute I, to LXXXIII of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute LXXXIV. of University College, Cork or Stat. LXXXIV. of Univ. Coll. Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the eighteenth day of June, 1970.
