Statute LXXII.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statute LXXII.

Schedule

Statute I. to LXXI. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Pathology

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland a full-time Professorship of Pathology. Notwithstanding the provisions of previous Statutes, the holder of this full-time office shall not be precluded from holding and receiving a stipend wholly in respect of a full-time appointment of the kind specified in section 4 of this Chapter. He shall, however, be precluded from engaging in private practice or consultations in any form or retaining any fees which may be received by him in connection with his work.
  2. The stipend of the Professorship shall be £1,900 per annum. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto. In calculating the pension of this office the provisions of Statute XXIX., Chapter II., section 6(b), in respect of seven added years shall not apply.
  3. The duties of the professor shall be to lecture in Pathology for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Pathology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
  4. The said Professorship shall be tenable only by the holder in a permanent capacity of an office of Pathologist to the Cork health authority with duties in a hospital which is recognised by the College and the University as a teaching hospital, and in which he shall have as of right, for teaching and research purposes, access to the pathological materials and specimens in the hospital.
  5. When the Professorship of Pathology established by this Chapter shall have been filled, the Professorship of Pathology established by Statute I., Chapter XVI., shall thereupon be abolished.

CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be £2,150 per annum increasing by annual increments of £70 to £2,500 per annum. If recommended by the President and approved by the Governing Body the stipend shall then proceed by further annual increments of £70 to a maximum of £2,850 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Conservative Dentistry under the direction of the Professor of Conservative Dentistry for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Conservative Dentistry for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the Committee or Authority which may control the hospital associated with the College for the purposes of Dental Education.
  4. The holder of the said lectureship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations.
  5. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Dental Surgery

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Dental Surgery.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be £2,150 per annum increasing by annual increments of £70 to £2,500 per annum. If recommended by the President and approved by the Governing Body the stipend shall then proceed by further annual increments of £70 to a maximum of £2,850 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Dental Surgery, including Oral Surgery, under the direction of the Professor of Dental Surgery for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Dental Surgery, including Oral Surgery, for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the Committee or Authority which may control the hospital associated with the College for the purposes of Dental Education.
  4. The holder of the said lectureship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations.
  5. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Civil Engineering, No. 3

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Civil Engineering, No. 3.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXX., Chapter I., section 5(a). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Civil Engineering under The direction of the Professor of Civil Engineering for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Civil Engineering for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Civil Engineering.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  5. The said lectureship shall be in substitution for the existing Associate Professorship of Civil Engineering established by Statute LVIII., Chapter XI., which said Professorship shall be abolished when the present holder ceases by resignation or otherwise to hold office.

CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Computer Science

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Computer Science.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXX., Chapter 1., section 5(a). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Computer Science under the general direction of the Professor of Electrical Engineering for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Computer Science for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, supervise the operation of the College computer under the general direction of the Professor of Electrical Engineering end discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Law

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Law.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXX., Chapter 1., section 5(a). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter ILI., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Law under the direction of the Senior Professor of Law for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Law for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Senior Professor of Law.
    For the purpose of this section whichever of the Professors of Common Law, Real Property and Equity or of Jurisprudence, Roman Law and Personal Property was first appointed to his Professorship, or, if both were appointed on the same day, whichever is the senior in age, shall be the Senior Professor of Law.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER VII.
Lectureship in Preventative Dentistry

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Preventive Dentistry.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College end of the University. The term "full-time" in this case shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the lectureship from holding and receiving a stipend wholly in respect of an appointment of the kind specified in section 5 of this Chapter. He shall, however, be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations.
  3. The stipend of the lectureship shall be £1,075 per annum increasing by annual increments of £35 to £1,250 per annum. If recommended by the President end approved by the Governing Body the stipend shall then proceed by further annual increments of £35 to a maximum of £1,425 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  4. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Preventive Dentistry for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Preventive Dentistry for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties as may be appropriate to the office.
  5. Notwithstanding the provisions of previous Statutes, the holder of this lectureship may also hold and receive a stipend in respect of an appointment by the College to a terminable post as Director of Special Studies on Dental Caries and Fluorides.
  6. On the cessation of the directorship referred to in the foregoing section, the stipend of the said lectureship shall be augmented by that of the said directorship.
  7. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto. The pension applicable in this case shall at all times be calculated on the stipend of the lectureship augmented by the stipend, if any, of which the lecturer is in receipt in respect of the said office of Director referred to in section 5.

CHAPTER VIII.
Lectureship in Dental Materials and Mechanics
Lectureship in Operative Dental Surgery
Lectureship in Periodontology

  1. The part-time Lectureship in Dental Materials and Mechanics established by Statute LXIII., Chapter V., is hereby abolished.
  2. The part-time Lectureship in Operative Dental Surgery established by Statute LXIII., Chapter V., is hereby abolished.
  3. The part-time Lectureship in Periodontology established by Statute LXIII., Chapter V., is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER IX.
Lectureship in Social Medicine - stipend

Notwithstanding the provisions of Statute LXX., Chapter I., section 5(a), the annual stipend of the Lectureship in Social Medicine established by Statute LXVII., Chapter VIII., shall, as from 1 January, 1966, be £2,150 increasing by annual increments of £70 to £2,500. If recommended by the President and approved by the Governing Body, the annual stipend shall then proceed by further annual increments of £70 to a maximum of £2,850.

CHAPTER X.
Children's Allowances

Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following section :
5. Children's Allowances shall be payable only in cases where the full-time office holder concerned is either a married man or widower, or a widow.

CHAPTER XI.
Faculties

Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended as follows:

CHAPTER XII.

The Professorship and Lectureships established by this Statute shall, subject to the provisions of Chapter I. in respect of the Professorship and of Chapter VII., in respect of the Lectureship established by that Chapter, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorship and Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LXXI. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER XIII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LXXI. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute LXXII. of University College Cork, or Stat. LXXII. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-ninth day of March, 1966.
