Statute LXX.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-fifth day of June, 1964.

Statute LXX.

Schedule

Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships hereinafter mentioned, and of the Officers of the College shall be those set forth in this Statute.

  2. The annual stipend of the President shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £4,860. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £465 per annum. In addition, he shall receive a non-pensionable allowance in respect of the expenses of his office, the annual amount of such allowance to be £645 as from 1 February, 1964.

  3. The annual stipend of the Registrar shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £640. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £465 per annum as from 1 February, 1964. The Governing Body may, at its discretion, pay a cash allowance equivalent to the pensionable value of this perquisite, and Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended accordingly.

  4. The annual stipend of each of the following part-time Professorships shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be as set out hereunder:

CHAPTER II.
Increased Stipends - Faculty of Dairy Science

  1. The annual stipend of each of the full-time Lectureships set out hereunder shell, as from 1 February, 1964, be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 5(a), of this Statute:

    Lectureship in Dairy Chemistry
    Lectureship in Dairy Economics
    Lectureship in Dairy Engineering
    Lectureship in Dairy and Food Microbiology
    Lectureship in Dairy Technology, No. 1

CHAPTER III.
Children's Allowances

  1. Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., section 2, is hereby amended by the substitution of the figure "£55" for the figure "£50" where it occurs in that section, such amendment to be deemed to have been operative as from 1 February, 1964.

  2. Statute LXIX., Chapter VIII., is hereby amended by the substitution of the figure "£27. 10s. 0d." for the figure "£25 " where it occurs in that Chapter, such amendment to be deemed to have been operative as from 1 February, 1964.

CHAPTER IV.
Increased Pensions

Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in previous Statutes the following increased annual pensions of former holders of full-time statutory offices in the College shall be deemed to have become operative as from 1 February, 1964:

CHAPTER V.
Scheme for Payment to Widows

  1. Statute LXVII., Chapter VI., is hereby amended as follows:

  2. Notwithstanding the provisions of Statute XLVII., Chapter II., section l, as amended, an increase of six per cent. in payments at present being made to widows under the Scheme for Payments to Widows is hereby authorised, such increased pension to be rounded off to the nearest £1.

  3. The provisions of this Chapter shall be deemed to have been operative as from 1 February, 1964.

CHAPTER VI.
Professorship of Medieval History

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Medieval History.

  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 4(a)(i), of this Statute. The provisions of Chapter IV. of Statute LXVII., as amended by section 1 of Chapter III. of this Statute, shall also apply to the office.

  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Medieval History for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Medieval History for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.

  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER VII.
Professorship of Modern History

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Modern History.

  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 4(a)(ii), of this Statute. The provisions of Chapter IV. of Statute LXVII., as amended by section 1 of Chapter III. of this Statute, shall also apply to the office.

  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Modern History for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Modern History for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.

  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER VIII.
Professorship of History
Lectureship in Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History
Professorship of Irish History
Lectureship in History

  1. The Professorship of History established by Statute I., Chapter XIII., section 1, is hereby abolished.

  2. The Lectureship in Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History established by Statute LV., Chapter XI., is hereby abolished.

  3. Statute LVI., Chapter I., section 3, is hereby amended by the deletion from that section of sub-section (b) which is as follows:

    "Irish History will be deemed to be included in the Department of History under the general direction of the Professor of History."

  4. The Lectureship in History established by Statute LXV., Chapter IV., shall, with the consent of the present holder, henceforth he known as the " Lectureship in Modern History," and the holder thereof shall lecture and examine in Modern History under the direction of the Professor of Modern History, and the said Chapter IV. of Statute LXV. shall be read and construed accordingly.

CHAPTER IX.
Lectureship in Mathematics, No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Mathematics, No. 2.

  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter l., section 5(a), of this Statute. The provisions of Chapter IV of Statute LXVII., as amended by section 1 of Chapter III. of this Statute, shall also apply to the office.

  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Mathematics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College, under the direction of the Professor of Mathematics. He shall in addition examine in Mathematics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.

  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER X.
Lectureship in Ophthalmology
Lectureship in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology
Professorship of Ophthalmology

  1. The foregoing Lectureships shall be in substitution for the existing part-time Professorship of Ophthalmology established by Statute XLIII., Chapter V., section 1, which Professorship is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER XI.
Lectureships in the Faculty of Medicine

  1. Statute LIX. is hereby amended as follows:

  2. The foregoing amendments shall be deemed to have had effect as from the date of coming into operation of said Statute LIX.

CHAPTER XII.
Professorship of Archaeology

Notwithstanding the provision of Statute LXVII., Chapter II., section 3(d), the stipend of the Professorship of Archaeology shall, from 1 August, 1963, to 31 January, 1964, be the same as that provided in section 3(a) of Chapter II. of that Statute.

CHAPTER XIII.
Faculties

Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by:

CHAPTER XIV.
Appointment of Professors and Lecturers

The Schedule to Chapter I. of Statute XXXIV. is hereby amended by the deletion therefrom of the Department of History and the addition thereto of the Department of Irish History, and Statute XXXIV., Chapter I., shall be read and construed accordingly.

CHAPTER XV.

The Professorships and Lectureships established by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorships and Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER XVI.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute LXX. of University College, Cork or Stat. LXX. of Univ. Coll. Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-fifth day of June, 1964.
