We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships hereinafter mentioned, and of the Officers of the College shall be those set forth in this Statute.
The annual stipend of the President shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £4,860. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £465 per annum. In addition, he shall receive a non-pensionable allowance in respect of the expenses of his office, the annual amount of such allowance to be £645 as from 1 February, 1964.
The annual stipend of the Registrar shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £640. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £465 per annum as from 1 February, 1964. The Governing Body may, at its discretion, pay a cash allowance equivalent to the pensionable value of this perquisite, and Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended accordingly.
(a)(i) The annual stipend of each of the full-time Professorships set out hereunder shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £2,400 increasing by annual increments of £60 to a maximum of £3,000:

(c) The annual stipend of the full-time Professorship of Medicine shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £1,930.
(a) The annual stipend of each of the full-time Lectureships act out hereunder shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £1,700 increasing by annual increments of £70 to £2,050. If recommended by the President and approved by the Governing Body, the annual stipend shall then proceed by further annual increments of £70 to a maximum of £2,400.
Provided that in the case of the present holders of full-time Lectureships the annual stipend shall, as from 1 February, 1904, be £1,700 increasing by annual increments of £70 to a maximum of £2,400:

(b) (i) Stipends for Readers: Where a full-time lecturer has received the title of Reader from the Senate of the National University of Ireland in accordance with the provisions of Statute LXXXVI., Chapter XXVI., of the National University of Ireland, an additional stipend of one-sixth of the maximum stipend applicable to the Lectureship he holds shall be paid to him.
Provided always that the number of such additional stipends shall not exceed one-fifth of the total number of full-time lecturers in the College, including those on whom the title of Reader has been conferred.
(a) The annual stipend of the Secretary and Bursar shall be the same as that provided in section 4(a) (i) hereof.
(b) The annual stipend of the Librarian shall be the same as that provided in section 5 (a) hereof.
Provided that in the case of the present holder of the office of Librarian, the annual stipend shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £1,700 increasing by annual increments of £70 to a maximum of £2,400.
(c) The annual stipend of the Assistant Secretary shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be £2,265. He shall in addition receive an annual stipend of £135 so long as he acts as Secretary to the Adult Education courses conducted by the College.
The annual stipend of each of the following part-time Professorships shall, as from 1 February, 1964, be as set out hereunder:

Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., section 2, is hereby amended by the substitution of the figure "£55" for the figure "£50" where it occurs in that section, such amendment to be deemed to have been operative as from 1 February, 1964.
Statute LXIX., Chapter VIII., is hereby amended by the substitution of the figure "£27. 10s. 0d." for the figure "£25 " where it occurs in that Chapter, such amendment to be deemed to have been operative as from 1 February, 1964.
Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in previous Statutes the following increased annual pensions of former holders of full-time statutory offices in the College shall be deemed to have become operative as from 1 February, 1964:

Statute LXVII., Chapter VI., is hereby amended as follows:
i. by the substitution of the figure "£450" for the figure "£400" in section 1;
ii. by the substitution of the figure "£135" for the figure "£120" in section 2, and
iii. by the substitution of
(a) the figure "£3. 10s. 0d." for the figure "£3" in section 3(a), and
(b) the figure "£2. 5s. 0d." for the figure "£2" in section 3(b).
Notwithstanding the provisions of Statute XLVII., Chapter II., section l, as amended, an increase of six per cent. in payments at present being made to widows under the Scheme for Payments to Widows is hereby authorised, such increased pension to be rounded off to the nearest £1.
The provisions of this Chapter shall be deemed to have been operative as from 1 February, 1964.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Medieval History.
The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 4(a)(i), of this Statute. The provisions of Chapter IV. of Statute LXVII., as amended by section 1 of Chapter III. of this Statute, shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Medieval History for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Medieval History for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Modern History.
The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 4(a)(ii), of this Statute. The provisions of Chapter IV. of Statute LXVII., as amended by section 1 of Chapter III. of this Statute, shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Modern History for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Modern History for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
The Professorship of History established by Statute I., Chapter XIII., section 1, is hereby abolished.
The Lectureship in Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History established by Statute LV., Chapter XI., is hereby abolished.
Statute LVI., Chapter I., section 3, is hereby amended by the deletion from that section of sub-section (b) which is as follows:
"Irish History will be deemed to be included in the Department of History under the general direction of the Professor of History."
The Lectureship in History established by Statute LXV., Chapter IV., shall, with the consent of the present holder, henceforth he known as the " Lectureship in Modern History," and the holder thereof shall lecture and examine in Modern History under the direction of the Professor of Modern History, and the said Chapter IV. of Statute LXV. shall be read and construed accordingly.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Mathematics, No. 2.
The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter l., section 5(a), of this Statute. The provisions of Chapter IV of Statute LXVII., as amended by section 1 of Chapter III. of this Statute, shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Mathematics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College, under the direction of the Professor of Mathematics. He shall in addition examine in Mathematics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
i. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a part-time non-pensionable Lectureship in Ophthalmology. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be £105 per annum.
ii. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Ophthalmology for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Ophthalmology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
i. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a part-time non-pensionable Lectureship in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be £105 per annum.
ii. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
The foregoing Lectureships shall be in substitution for the existing part-time Professorship of Ophthalmology established by Statute XLIII., Chapter V., section 1, which Professorship is hereby abolished.
Statute LIX. is hereby amended as follows:
i. by the deletion of sections 3 and 4 from Chapter III.,
and
ii. by the substitution of the words "Chapter III." for the words " Chapter IV." in line 2 of Chapter V.
The foregoing amendments shall be deemed to have had effect as from the date of coming into operation of said Statute LIX.
Notwithstanding the provision of Statute LXVII., Chapter II., section 3(d), the stipend of the Professorship of Archaeology shall, from 1 August, 1963, to 31 January, 1964, be the same as that provided in section 3(a) of Chapter II. of that Statute.
Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by:
(a) the addition of the subject Oto-Rhino-Laryngology to the Faculty of Medicine;
(b) the addition of the subjects Medieval History and Modern History to the Faculty of Arts, and
(c) the deletion of the subject History from the Faculties of Arts and Celtic Studies and of the subject Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History from the Faculty of Arts.
The Schedule to Chapter I. of Statute XXXIV. is hereby amended by the deletion therefrom of the Department of History and the addition thereto of the Department of Irish History, and Statute XXXIV., Chapter I., shall be read and construed accordingly.
The Professorships and Lectureships established by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorships and Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College, Cork.
This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LXIX. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute LXX. of University College, Cork or Stat. LXX. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-fifth day of June, 1964.
