Statute LXIX.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-first day of January, 1964.

Statute LXIX

Schedule

Statutes I. to LXVIII. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments as hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Applied Psychology

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Applied Psychology.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXVII., Chapter II., sec. 3(a). The provisions of Chapter IV. of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Professorship shall be to lecture in Applied Psychology for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College and for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University. He shall also examine in Applied Psychology for the College and, if required to do so, for the University.
  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  5. The said Professorship shall be in substitution for the existing Lectureship in Psychology established by Statute LI., Chapter IV., which Lectureship shall be abolished if the present holder is appointed to the Professorship hereby established or ceases by resignation or otherwise to hold office.

CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Dental Surgery

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Dental Surgery.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be £2,850 per annum rising by annual increments of £110 per annum to a maximum of £3,400 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., shall also apply to this office.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Dental Surgery, including Oral Surgery, for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Dental Surgery, including Oral Surgery, for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the Committee or Authority which may control the hospital associated with the College for the purposes of Dental Education. He shall act as Dean of the hospital if so appointed by the Hospital Authority.
  4. The holder of the said Professorship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations.
  5. He shall act, if so chosen by the Governing Body, as Director of Dental Studies.
  6. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  7. The said Professorship shall be substitution for the existing part-time Professorship of Dental Surgery established by Statute LXIII., Chapter V., which part-time office shall be abolished if the present holder is appointed to the Professorship hereby established or ceases by resignation or otherwise to hold office.

CHAPTER III.
Professorship of Dental Provisions

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Dental Prosthetics.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be £2,850 per annum rising by annual increments of £110 per annum to a maximum of £3,400 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., shall also apply to this office.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Dental Prosthetics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Dental Prosthetics for the College and, if required by the Senate to, do so, for the University The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the Committee or Authority which may control the hospital associated with the College for the purposes of Dental Education. He shall act as Dean of the hospital if so appointed by the Hospital Authority.
  4. The Holder of the said Professorship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly payments in respect of consultations
  5. He shall act, if so chose by the Governing Body, as Director of Dental Studies.
  6. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXLX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  7. Chapter III. of Statute XLVIII., as amended, is hereby revoked except in so far as it provides for the abolition of the past-time Lectureship in Dental Mechanics established by Statute VI.

CHAPTER IV.
Professorship of Orthodontics

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Orthodontics.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be £2,850 per annum rising by annual increments of £110 per annum to a maximum of £3,400 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., shall also apply to this office.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Orthodontics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Orthodontics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the Committee or Authority which may control the hospital associated with the College for the purposes of Dental Education. He shall act as Dean of the hospital if so appointed by the Hospital Authority.
  4. The holder of the said Professorship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations.
  5. He shall act, if so chosen by the Governing Body, as Director of Dental Studies.
  6. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Persian Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  7. The said Professorship shall be in substitution for the existing part-time Lectureship in Orthodontics established by Statute L., Chapter V., which part-time office shall be abolished if the present holder is appointed to the Professorship hereby established or ceases by resignation or otherwise to hold office.

CHAPTER V.
Professorship of Conservative Dentistry

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Conservative Dentistry.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be £2,850 per annum rising by annual increments of £110 per annum to a maximum of £3,400 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., shall also apply to this office.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Conservative Dentistry for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Conservative Dentistry in the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the Committee or Authority which may control the hospital associated with the College for the purposes of Dental Education. He shall act as Dean of the hospital if so appointed by the Hospital Authority.
  4. The holder of the said Professorship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations.
  5. He shall act, if so chosen by the Governing Body, as Director of Dental Studies.

CHAPTER VI.
Faculty of Dairy Science
Professorship of Agriculture

  1. Statute XX., Chapter I., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the deletion therefrom of section 7.
  2. Notwithstanding the provisions of previous Statutes, the duties of the holder of the Professorship of Agriculture referred to in Statute XX., Chapter I., shall continue to include those of Director of the College Farms with responsibility for their management and business.
  3. The President is empowered to and shall regulate at the College Farms such teaching, demonstration and research facilities as may be required by the heads of departments of the College other than the Department of Agriculture, and by other teaching, training and research institutes and bodies.

CHAPTER VII.
Faculty of Dairy Science

Statute XX., Chapter III., is hereby amended by the deletion of the words :
" The qualifications in scientific knowledge of persons appointed as such assistants may be either in one of the branches of General Science or in a branch of Agricultural Science."

CHAPTER VIII.
Professorship of Medicine - Children's Allowances

There shall be paid as from 1 July, 1963, to the holder of the Professorship of Medicine established by Statute LXIII., Chapter IV., a non-pensionable allowance of £25 per annum in respect of each of his children from the date of birth up to the age each such child ceases to attend continuously a teaching institution of less than University rank, or until the completion of the eighteenth year of age, whichever shall first occur.

CHAPTER IX.
The President

Chapter II. of Statute LXIV., is hereby revoked, such revocation to be deemed to be operative as and from 18th October, 1963.

CHAPTER X.

The Professorships established by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorships had been included in Statutes I. to LXVIII. of University College Cork.

CHAPTER XI.
Faculties

Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the subject Conservative Dentistry to the Faculty of Medicine and by the substitution of the subject Applied Psychology for the subject Psychology in the Faculties of Arts and Science.

CHAPTER XII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LXVIII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute LXIX. of University College, Cork or Stat. LXIX. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-first day of January 1964.
