Statute LXVIII.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this tenth day of December, 1963.

Statute LXVIII.
Schedule
Statutes I. to LXVII. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Lectureship in Biochemistry
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
Institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship
in Biochemistry.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lecturer shall be the same as those provided for in
Statute LXVII., Chapter II, section 4. The provisions of Chapter
IV. of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Biochemistry
for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for
all Diplomas and Certificates of the College, under the direction of
the Professor of Biochemistry. He shall in addition examine in
Biochemistry for the College and, if required by the Senate to do
so, for the University.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and
Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute
XXXLX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further
amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in French No. 2
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
French, No. 2.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lecturer shall be the same as those provided for in
Statute LXVII., Chapter II., section 4. The provisions of Chapter
IV. of that statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in French for
all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for all
Diplomas and Certificates of the College, under the direction of the
Professor of Romance Languages. He shall in addition examine
in French for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for
the University.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A
of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the
addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER III.
Appointment of Professors, Lecturers and other Teachers of the College
Chapter I. of Statute XXXIV. is hereby amended as follows;
- (a) In section 1 by the insertion after the word "office" where it
occurs in that section of the words "or when it shall become known
that such vacancy shall occur within twelve months."
- (b) In section 2 by the addition after the word "vacancy" where
it occurs in that section of the words "or impending vacancy."
- (c) In section 3 by the insertion after the word "purpose" where
it occurs in that section of the words " such Statute not to come into
operation until the office concerned shall have become vacant."
- (d) In section 4 by the insertion after the word "vacancy " where
it occurs in that section of the words "or impending vacancy."
- (e) In section 5 by the insertion after the word "vacancy" where
it occurs in that section of the words "or impending vacancy."
- (f) In section 17 by the substitution for the words "vacant
office" where they occur in that section of the words "vacancy or
impending vacancy."
- (g) By the addition of the following new section;
"21. In the case of an impending vacancy the appointment
of a candidate by the Senate shall not take effect until
the vacancy shall have occurred."
The Lectureships established by this Statute shall be tenable for
the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof
shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said
Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LXVII. of
University College, Cork.
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I
to LXVII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute
LXVIII. of University College, Cork or Stat. LXVIII. of Univ.
Coll. Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the tenth day of
December, 1963.
Present when the Common Seal of University College, Cork,
was affixed.
