Statute LXIV.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-sixth day of October, 1961.

Statute LXIV.
Schedule
Statutes I. to LXIII. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Power of Investment
The words "Fully paid" are hereby deleted from Statute I., Chapter IX., Section 5.
CHAPTER II.
The President
Notwithstanding the provisions of Statute I., Chapter IV.,
Section 4, and any other provisions to the contrary, the President
may, on giving three months' notice in writing to the Senate and
to the Governing Body, retire at any time after he shall have
attained the age of sixty-five years, and Statute XXXIX., Chapter
II., and the Additional Pension Scheme attached thereto shall
be read and construed accordingly.
CHAPTER III.
Professorship of Spanish
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of
Spanish.
- The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as those provided for
in Statute LXIII., Chapter 1., Section 3(b). The provisions of
Statute LVIII., Chapter I., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III.
of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture and examine in
Spanish for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College
and of the University.
- The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table
A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the
addition of the said office thereto.
- The said Professorship shall be in substitution for the existing
Lectureship in Spanish established by Statute VI., Chapter I.,
Section 1, as amended by Statute XLVI., Chapter III., Section
2, which Lectureship shall be abolished if the present holder is
appointed to the Professorship hereby established or ceases by
resignation or otherwise to hold office. Statute VI., Chapter I.,
Section 1, as amended, shall, on the occurrence of either of such
events, be read and construed accordingly.
CHAPTER IV.
Professorship of Nuclear and Theoretical Physics
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of
Nuclear and Theoretical Physics.
- The said Professorship shall be a part-time, non-pensionable
office. The stipend for such part-time Professorship shall be £540
per annum.
- The said Professorship may, at the discretion of the Governing
Body, be held by the present holder of the Lectureship in Experimental Physics in conjunction with that office.
- Nuclear and Theoretical Physics shall be deemed to be
included in the Department of Experimental Physics under the
general direction of the Professor of Experimental Physics.
CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Chemistry, No. 2
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
Chemistry, No. 2.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in
Statute LXIII., Chapter 1., Section 3(f). The provisions of Statute
LVIII., Chapter 1., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III. of that
Statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in
Chemistry for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College
and of the University under the direction of the Professor of Chemistry
and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Chemistry
as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table
A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the
addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Civil Engineering, No. 2
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
Civil Engineering, No. 2.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in
Statute LXIII., Chapter 1., Section 3(f). The provisions of Statute
LVIII., Chapter I., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III. of that
Statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in
Civil Engineering for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the
College and of the University under the direction of the Professor
of Civil Engineering and to discharge such other duties in the
Department of Civil Engineering as shall be assigned to him by the
said Professor.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table
A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the
addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER VII.
Lectureship in Experimental Physics, No. 2
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
Experimental Physics, No. 2.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided
for in Statute LXIII., Chapter 1., Section 3(f). The provisions of
Statute LVIII., Chapter 1., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III.
of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine
in Experimental Physics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates
of the College and of the University under the direction of the
Professor of Experimental Physics and to discharge such other
duties in the Department of Experimental Physics as shall be
assigned to him by the said Professor.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table
A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the
addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER VIII.
Expense Allowances
Notwithstanding the provisions of Statute LXVIII.,Chapter I.,
- (a) The stipend of the President as from 1 April, 1959, shall be
subject to a deduction of £400 per annum and the said
sum of £400 shall be payable to him as an annual pensionable
allowance in respect of the expenses of his office.
- (b) The stipend of the Registrar as from 1 April, 1959, shall be
subject to a deduction of £300 per annum and the said sum
of £300 shall be payable to him as an annual pensionable
allowance in respect of the expenses of his office.
- (c) The stipend of the Secretary and Bursar as from 1 April,
1959, shall be subject to a deduction of £300 per annum
and the said sum of £300 shall be payable to him as an
annual pensionable allowance in respect of the expenses of
his office.
- (d) The stipend of each full-time Professor as from 1 April,
1959, shall be subject to a deduction of £150 per annum
and the said sum of £150 shall be payable to each full-time
Professor as an annual pensionable allowance in respect of
the expenses of his office.
- (e) The stipend of each full-time Lecturer as from 1 April,
1959, shall be subject to a deduction of £100 per annum and
the said sum of £100 shall be payable to each full-time
Lecturer as an annual pensionable allowance in respect of
the expenses of his office.
The Professorships and Lectureships established by this Statute
shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions
and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorships and Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LXIII. of University College, Cork.
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes
I. to LXIII. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as
Statute LXIV. of University College, Cork, or Stat. LXIV. of
Univ. Coll., Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-fourth
day of January, 1961.
