We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statutes I. to LXII. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth:
Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to LXII. of University College, Cork, the yearly stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships hereinafter mentioned and of the Officers of the College shall, as from 1 July, 1959, be those set forth in this Statute.
The yearly stipend of the President shall be £3,130 and he shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £360 per annum. He shall, in addition, be entitled to a non-pensionable allowance of £500 per annum in respect of the expenses of his office.
The yearly stipend of the Registrar shall be £432. He shall also be entitled to either residence, fuel and light, or, at the discretion of the Governing Body, an allowance of £360 per annum in lieu thereof, which amount shall be the value of the perquisite for pension purposes, and Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended accordingly.
(a) The stipends of each of the following full-time Professorships shall be £1,900 per annum, increasing by five annual increments of £72 to a maximum of £2,260 per annum:

Provided that on the occurrence of the first vacancy after 1 July, 1959, in each of the foregoing offices, the stipend of each such office shall thenceforth be the same as those of the Professorships set out in sub-section (b) of this Section.
(b) The stipends of each of the following full-time Professorships shall be £1,800 per annum, increasing by five annual increments of £72 to a maximum stipend of £2,160 per annum:

(c) The stipend of the full-time Professorship of Archaeology shall be £1,650 per annum, increasing by five annual increments of £72 to a maximum stipend of £2,010 per annum.
(d) The stipend of the full-time professorship of German shall be £1,620 per annum.
(e) The stipend of the Associate Professorship of Civil Engineering, the holder of which shall also act as Engineer to the College, shall be £2,160 per annum.
(f) The stipends of each of the following full-time Lectureships shall be £1,242 per annum, increasing by seven annual increments of £34 to a maximum stipend of £1,620 per annum:

(a) The stipend of the Secretary and Bursar shall be the same as that provided in Section 3(b) above.
(b) The stipend of the Librarian shall be the same as that provided in Section 3 (f) above.
(c) The stipend of the Assistant Secretary shall be £1,224 per annum.
The provisions of Sections 5, 6 and 7 of Chapter I., and of Chapter III. of Statute LVIII. shall continue to he applicable to the full-time statutory offices set forth in this Chapter.
(a) The yearly stipend of each of the following part-time professorships shall, as from 1 July, 1959, be as set forth hereunder:

Notwithstanding any other provisions of the Statutes to the contrary, the remuneration in respect of part-time offices of £100 per annum or under may be paid half-yearly at the end of June and December in each year.
The stipend of the Professorship of Agriculture shall, as from 1 July, 1959, be the same as the Professorships set out in Section 3 (a) of Chapter I. of this Statute. In addition, the holder of the Professorship shall be paid a sum of £120 per annum in respect of his services as Director of the College Farms.
Provided that on the occurence of the first vacancy in the office, the stipend shall thenceforth be the same as that of the Professorships set out in Section 3 (b) of Chapter I. of this Statute.
The stipends of each of the following full-time Professorships shall, as from 1 July, 1959, be the same as those of the Professorship set out in Section 3 (b) of Chapter I. of this Statute:

The stipend of the full-time Lectureship in Dairy Chemistry shall, as a from 1 July. 1959, be the same as that of the Lectureships set out in Section 3 (f) of Chapter I. of this Statute.
The provisions of Sections 5, 6 and Chapter I., and of Chapter III. of Statute LVIII. shall continue to be applicable to the Professorships and Lectureship set forth in this Chapter.
In addition to the Lectureship in Electrical Engineering established by Chapter II. of Statute LV., there shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Electrical Engineering, No. 2.
The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for the full-time Lectureships in Chapter I., Section 3 (f) of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LVIII., Chapter I., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III. of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Electrical Engineering for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University under the direction of the Professor of Electrical Engineering and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Electrical Engineering as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a full-time Professorship of Medicine, the holder of which shall be head of the Department of Medicine. The term "full-time" in this case shall not be interpreted as precluding the said Professor from receiving a stipend wholly in respect of an appointment of the kind specified in Section 4 of this Chapter, but he shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form.
The stipend of this Professorship shall be £1,500 per annum. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be further amended by the addition of the said office thereto. In calculating the pension of this office, the provisions of Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., Section 6 (b) in respect of seven added years shall not apply.
The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture and to examine in Medicine for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University.
The holder of this office shall be a member of the medical staff of a general teaching hospital recognised by the College and the University, in which he shall have, as of right, the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female, where he shall be the medical practitioner in charge.
When the Professorship of Medicine established by this Chapter shall be filled, the Professorship of Medicine created by Statute I., Chapter XVI. shall thereupon be abolished.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of their institution by the National University of Ireland, the following part-time non-pensionable offices:
(a) A Professorship of Dental Surgery |
(b) A Lectureship in Operative Dental Surgery |
(c) A Lectureship in Periodontology |
(d) A Lectureship in Dental Materials and Mechanics |
(a) The stipend in respect of the Professorship of Dental Surgery shall be £240 per annum;
(b) The stipend in respect of the Lectureship in Operative Dental Surgery shall be £90 per annum;
(c) The stipend in respect of the Lectureship in Periodonlology shall be £60 per annum;
(d) The stipend in respect of the Lectureship in Dental Materials and Mechanics shall be £90 per annum.
(i) The duties of the said Professor shall be to lecture and to examine in Dental Surgery for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University. The duties shall also include lecturing and examining in Oral Surgery.
(ii) The duties of the said Lecturers shall be to lecture and to examine in their respective subjects for the same purposes and to do so in the cases of (b) and (c) under the direction of the Professor of Dental Surgery, and in the case of (d) under the direction of the Professor of Dental Prosthetics.
The Lectureship in Dental Surgery created by Statute. XLVIII., Chapter II., shall be extinguished as from the date of the appointment to the Professorship of Dental Surgery created by this Statute.
Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the following subjects to the Faculty of Medicine:
Operative Dental Surgery
Periodontology
Dental Materials and
Mechanics
The Lectureship in Municipal Engineering established by Section 2, Chapter II., of Statute XXII. is hereby abolished.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Irish Language and Literature.
The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for the full-time Lectureships in Chapter I., Section 3(f), of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LVIII., Chapter 1., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III. of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Irish Language and Literature for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University under the direction of the Professor of Irish Language and Literature and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Irish Language and Literature as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.. Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
The duties of the holder of the Lectureship in Ancient Classics instituted by Statute VI., Chapter I., shall be to lecture and examine in Ancient Classics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University under the direction of the Professor of Ancient Classics and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Ancient Classics as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in previous Statutes, the following increased annual pensions of former holders of full-time statutory offices in the College shall be deemed to have become operative as from 1 July, 1959:

The Professorships and Lectureships established by this Statute shall, subject to the special provisions contained in Chapter IV. in respect of the Professorship of Medicine, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall, subject as aforesaid, be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said. Professorships and Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LXII. of University College, Cork.
Pension Fund No. 2: In addition to the obligations imposed by Statute LVIII., Chapter V., and previous Statutes, there shall be paid annually as from 1 July, 1959, into Pension Fund No. 2 a further sum of £3,500 until such time as the capital of the said Pension Fund shall reach £180,000.
Pension Fund No. 4: In addition to the obligations imposed by Statute LVIII., Chapter V., and previous Statutes, there shall he paid annually as from July, 1959, into Pension Fund No. 4 a further sum of £700.
This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LXII. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute LXIII. of University College, Cork, or Stat. LXIII. of Univ. Coll., Cork.
This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-sixth day of January, 1960.
