University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-third day of June, 1951.

Statute LI.

Schedule

Statutes I. to L. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends.

Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to L. of University College, Cork, the yearly stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships established in the College, and of the Officers of the College shall be those set forth in this Statute.

  1. The yearly stipend of the President shall be £2,200. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £300, and Statute XXXIX., Chapter II. is amended accordingly. He shall, in addition, be entitled to a non-pensionable allowance of £350 per annum in respect of the expenses of his office.

  2. The yearly stipend of the Registrar shall be £300. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £200, and Statute XXXIX., Chapter II. is amended accordingly.

  3. The present holders of the full-time statutory offices set out in Sections 3 and 4 of this Chapter shall for increment purposes be placed at that point in the respective scales set out above determined by the following provisions:

  4. The provisions of the Section 5 of this Chapter shall also apply to future appointments to full-time statutory offices in the College, and any provisions to the contrary contained in previous Statutes are hereby amended accordingly.

  5. The Governing Body, on the recommendation of the President, shall have power to determine the point on the increment scale (up to a maximum of five increments) at which the holder of a full-time statutory office with special professional experience may be placed on the scale.

  6. The yearly stipend of each of the part-time offices set forth in this Section shall be as follows:

    The Professorship of Archaeology£850
    The Professorship of German£750
    The Lectureship in Economics£400
    The Lectureship in Sociology£400

  7. The increased stipends provided for by this Chapter shall be payable as from the first October, 1930.

CHAPTER II.
Childrens' Allowances.

  1. There shall be paid to each full-time statutory officer of the College and each full-time Professor and full-time Lecturer who is a married man, or a widower or a widow, a non-pensionable allowance of £30 per annum in respect of each of his/her children from date of birth up to the age such children cease to attend continuously a Secondary School.

  2. The provisions of this Chapter shall be operative as from 1st October 1950.

CHAPTER III.
Pension Funds.

  1. Pension Fund No. 2: In addition to the obligations imposed by Section 2, Chapter 1., Statute XLVII., there shall be paid annually into Pension Fund No. 2 a further sum of £2,000 until such time as the said Pension Fund shall be £135,000, calculated on the basis provided for in the aforesaid Section.

  2. Pension Fund No. 4: In addition to the obligations imposed by Section 3, Chapter 1., Statute XLVII., there shall be paid annually into Pension Fund No. 4 a further sum of £500 until such time as the said Pension Fund shall be £10,000, calculated on the basis provided for in Section 3 (b), Chapter 1., Statute XLVII.

  3. The increased contributions provided for by this Chapter shall be payable as from 1st October, 1950.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Psychology.

  1. There shall be established in the College in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland a Lectureship in Psychology.

  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Section 3 (c) of Chapter I. of this Statute.

  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Psychology under the direction of the Professor of Philosophy, and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Philosophy as shall be assigned to him by the Professor of Philosophy.

  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., is amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

  5. Faculties: Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended shall be further amended by the addition of the subject Psychology to the Faculties of Arts and of Science.

CHAPTER V.
Research Lectureship in Nuclear Physics.

  1. There shall be established in the College in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland a Research Lectureship in Nuclear Physics.

  2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend for such Lectureship shall be £200 per annum.

  3. The said Lectureship may at the discretion of the Governing Body be held by the present holder of the Lectureship in Experimental Physics in conjunction with that office.

  4. Faculty: Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended shall be further amended by, the addition of the subject Nuclear Physics to the Faculty of Science.

CHAPTER VI.

The Lectureships instituted by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and on the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to L. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER VII.
Increased Stipend of the Professorships of the Faculty of Dairy Science.

  1. The stipend of the Professorship of Agriculture shall be the same as that of the Professorships set out in Section 3 (a) of Chapter I., of this Statute. In addition, the holder of this Professorship shall be paid a sum of £120 per annum in respect of his services as Director of the College Farms.

  2. The stipends of the following full-time Professorships. shall be the same as that of the Professorships set out in Section 3 (b) of Chapter 1., of this Statute:

    The Professorship of Dairy Accounting and Dairy Economics,
    The Professorship of Dairy Bacteriology,
    The Professorship of Dairy Chemistry,
    The Professorship of Dairy Engineering,
    The Professorship of Dairy Technology.

  3. The provisions set forth in Sections 3, 6, 7 and 9 of Chapter I. and in Chapter II. of this Statute shall be applicable also to the Professorships set forth in this Chapter.

CHAPTER VIII.
Increased Pensions.

Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in previous Statutes, the following increased pensions of former holders of full-time statutory offices in the College shall be deemed to have become operative as from 1st October, 1930:

CHAPTER IX.

Statute XLVII., Chapter II., shall be amended as follows: by the substitution of the word " twelve" for the word "eight" in Section 1 (a), line 7; and the substitution of the sum "£330" for the sum "£250" in Section 1 (d), line 4.

CHAPTER X.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to L. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute LI. of University College, Cork, or Stat. LI. of Univ. Coll., Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-third day of June, 1951.
