Irish University Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the above Act, do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork this First day of July, 1997.

SCHEDULE

Statute 177

Statutes 1 to 176 of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I
Professorship of Latin and Greek

  1. The Professorship of Ancient Classics, established by Statute 5, Chapter I shall henceforth be known as the "Professorship of Latin and Greek".
  2. Commencing with the next appointment to the Professorship of Latin and Greek, the said Professor shall be Head of the Department of Latin and Greek for a period of at least five years. In the event of the Governing Body determining, by the making of a Statute or Regulation or otherwise, that new arrangements shall apply to the appointment of the Head of the Department of Latin and Greek, the holder of said Professorship shall thenceforth have the obligation of acting as Head of the Department of Latin and Greek for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Latin and Greek for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. In the event of a revised arrangement in regard to the appointment of a Head of Department referred to in section 2 applying, the Professor shall carry out the lecturing duties under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Latin and Greek. The Professor shall also examine in Latin and Greek for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
  4. All references in these Statutes to the "Professorship of Ancient Classics" shall henceforth be deemed to be references to the "Professorship of Latin and Greek".

CHAPTER II
Professorship of Applied Social Studies

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Applied Social Studies.
  2. The said Professorship shall be in the Department of Applied Social Studies and shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 4(a), as amended.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Applied Social Studies, under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Applied Social Studies, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Professor shall also examine in Applied Social Studies for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  5. The said Professorship is intended to be in substitution for the Associate Professorship of Applied Social Studies, established by Statute 166, Chapter III., which said Associate Professorship shall cease to exist if the holder thereof is appointed to the Professorship hereby established or ceases by resignation or otherwise to hold office.
  6. The Professorship hereby established shall, subject to the provisions contained in this Statute, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorship had been included in Statutes 1 to 176 of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER III

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes 1 to 176 of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute 177 of University College, Cork or Stat. 177 of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute will come into operation on the First day of July, 1997.
