Statute 162.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this nineteenth day of January, 1993.

Statute 162.

Schedule

Statutes 1 to 161 of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of German

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of German.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 4(a), as amended.
  3. The said Professor shall, on initial appointment, be Head of the Department of German for a period of at least five years. In the event of the Governing Body determining, by the making of a Statute or Regulation or otherwise, that new arrangements shall apply to the appointment of the Head of the Department of German, the holder of the said Professorship shall thenceforth have the obligation of acting as Head of the Department of German for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide.
  4. The duties of the Professorship shall be to lecture in German for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. In the event of a revised arrangement in regard to the appointment of a Head of Department referred to in section 3 applying, the Professor shall carry out the duties under the general direction of the Head of the Department of German. The Professor shall also examine in German for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
  5. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  6. The said Professorship shall be in substitution for the Professorship of German established by Statute 2, Chapter I., section 3, which Professorship is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Italian

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Italian.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 4 (a), as amended.
  3. The said Professor shall, on initial appointment, be Head of the Department of Italian for a period of at least five years. In the event of the Governing Body determining, by the making of a Statute or Regulation or otherwise, that new arrangements shall apply to the appointment of the Head of the Department of Italian, the holder of the said Professorship shall thenceforth have the obligation of acting as Head of the Department of Italian for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide.
  4. The duties of the Professorship shall be to lecture in Italian for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Professor shall also examine in Italian for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
  5. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  6. The said Professorship shall be in substitution for the Professorship of Italian established by Statute 119, Chapter IV., which Professorship is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER III.
Professor of Law No. 3 (Part-time)

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Law No. 3.
  2. The said Professorship shall be in the Department of Law and shall be a part-time non-pensionable office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professor shall be such amount as is determined by the Governing Body not exceeding 30% of the maximum stipend attaching to Professorship as provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 4 (a), as amended.
  3. The duties of the said Professor of Law shall be to teach in such legal subject or subjects as shall be assigned to the said Professor on his appointment by the Head of the Department of Law for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He/she shall also examine in such legal subject or subjects of the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The subject or subjects so assigned to the said Professor shall not during his/her tenure of office be altered except with the prior consent of the said Professor.
  4. The said Professor shall carry out his/her teaching duties under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Law.
  5. The said Professor shall not be eligible for appointment as Head of the Department of Law.
  6. Statute 147, Chapter III.. section 4 and Chapter IV., section 3, are hereby amended accordingly.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Forensic and Legal Medicine (Part-time)

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in the Department of Pathology to be known as the part-time Lectureship in Forensic and Legal Medicine.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be IR£6,500.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Forensic and Legal Medicine, under the direction of the Professor of Pathology, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Forensic and Legal Medicine for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Pathology.

CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Pathology (Cytopathology) (Part-time)

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in the Department of Pathology to be known as the Part-time Lectureship in Pathology (Cytopathology).
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be IR£4,000.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Pathology including Cytopathology, under the direction of the Professor of Pathology, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Pathology, including Cytopathology, for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Pathology.
  4. The said part-time Lectureship shall be tenable only by the holder in a permanent capacity of an office of Consultant Histopathologist, with a special interest in Cytopathology, with duties in a hospital which is recognised by the College and the University as a teaching hospital.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Pathology (Haematology) (Part-time)

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in the Department of Pathology to be known as the Part-time Lectureship in Pathology (Haematology).
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be IR£4,500.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Pathology, including Haematology, under the direction of the Professor of Pathology, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Pathology, including Haematology, for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Pathology.
  4. The said part-time Lectureship shall be tenable only by the holder in a permanent capacity of an office of Consultant Haematologist with duties in a hospital which is recognised by the College and the University as a teaching hospital.

CHAPTER VII.
Lectureship in Pathology (Neuropathology) (Part-time)

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in the Department of Pathology to be known as the part-time Lectureship in Pathology (Neuropathology).
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office; the stipend of the Lectureship shall be IR£2,000.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Pathology including Neuropathology, under the direction of the Professor of Pathology, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Pathology, including Neuropathology, for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Pathology.
  4. The said part-time Lectureship shall be tenable only by the holder in a permanent capacity of an office of Consultant Histopathologist, with a special interest in Neuropathology, with duties in a hospital which is recognised by the College and the University as a teaching hospital.

CHAPTER VIII.
Lectureship in Bacteriology

The Part-time Lectureship in Bacteriology, established by Statute 77, Chapter I., is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER IX.
Lectureship in Medical Jurisprudence

The Part-time Lectureship in Medical Jurisprudence, established by Statute 19, Chapter II., is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER X.

The Professorships and Lectureships hereby established shall, subject to the provisions contained in this Statute, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorships and Lectureships had been included in Statute 1 to 161 of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER XI.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes 1 - 161 of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute 162 of University College, Cork or Stat. 162 of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute will come into operation on the nineteenth day of January, 1993.
