Statute 161.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this thirtieth day of June, 1992.

Statute 161

Schedule

Statutes 1 to 160 of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends

  1. Nothwithstanding any provisions contained to the contrary in Statutes 1 to 160 of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships and of the Officers of the College shall be increased as from the date specified and as hereinafter set forth.
  2. The annual stipends of the President, of the Professors and Lecturers and of the Officers shall be increased, as from 1 January, 1991, by 4%.
  3. The deductions referred to in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 2(b) and the additional amount referred to in Statute 136, Chapter I., section 5(b), as already increased, shall be further increased, as from 1 January, 1991, by 4%.

CHAPTER II.
Children's Allowances

Statute 67, Chapter IV, section 2, as already amended, is hereby further amended to the extent that the children's allowances, as from 1 January, 1990, be increased by IR£1 per annum and, as from 1 January, 1991, be further increased by IR£1 per annum.

CHAPTER III.
Pension Scheme

  1. The Pension Scheme annexed to Statute 79, as already amended, is hereby further amended in accordance with provisions set out in this Chapter.
  2. Clause 18 of said Pension Scheme shall be re-designated as sub-clause (a) and there shall be added thereto the following sub-clause:

    "18.(b) i. A participant may be permitted, at the absolute discretion of the Governing Body, to retire at any age prior to the retirement age applicable to the office or post he/she holds under the terms of any early retirement scheme applicable in the Public Service in accordance with the terms of such scheme and as adopted by the Governing Body.

    Provided that the amount of pension payable from the University College, Cork Pension Fund shall be actuarially reduced to take account of the difference in age as at date of retirement and the retirement age applicable to the office or post held by the participant, any balance of pension payable being defrayed from general College income.

    ii. The foregoing provision shall be deemed to have been effective as from 1 March, 1988.

CHAPTER IV.
Professorship of Corporate Finance

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Corporate Finance.
  2. The said Professorship shall be in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems and shall be a full- time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter 1., section 4(a), as amended.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Corporate Finance, under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Professor shall also examine in Corporate Finance for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  5. An appointment to the said Professorship shall not be made when and for so long as an appointment has been made to the Lectureship in Corporate Finance, established by Chapter VII of this Statute.

CHAPTER V.
Associate Professorship of Economics

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, an Associate Professorship of Economics.
  2. The said Associate Professorship shall be in the Department of Economics and shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Associate Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 4(c), as amended.
  3. The duties of the Associate Professor shall be to lecture in Economics, under the general direction of the Professor of Economics, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Associate Professor shall also examine in Economics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Economics.
  4. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in this or any other Statute, the said Associate Professor shall not be eligible for appointment as Deputy to the President or as Acting President of the College.
  5. The said Associate Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER VI.
Associate Professorship in Microelectronics (Part-time)

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, and Associate Professorship in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Micro- electronics to be known as the part-time Associate Professorship of Microelectronics.
  2. A stipend shall not be payable in respect of the said part-time Associate Professorship, which shall not be a pensionable office.
  3. The duties of the Associate Professor shall be to lecture in Microelectronics, under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Microelectronics, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Associate Professor shall also examine in Microelectronics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Microelectronics.
  4. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in this or any other Statute, the said Associate Professor shall not be eligible for appointment as Deputy to the President or as Acting President of the College.
  5. The said part-time Associate Professorship shall be tenable only by a member of the scientific staff of the National Micro- electronics Research Centre in the College. The provisions of Statute 34, Chapter I., sections 4 and 5 shall not apply to the filling or re-filling of the said Associate Professorship.

CHAPTER VII.
Lectureship in Corporate Finance

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Corporate Finance.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems and shall be a full-time office within the meanings of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Corporate Finance, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Corporate Finance for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  5. An appointment to the said Lectureship shall not be made when and for so long as an appointment has been made to the Professorship in Corporate Finance, established by Chapter IV of this Statute.

CHAPTER VIII.
Lectureship in Economics No. 3

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Economics No. 3.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Economics and shall be a full-time office within the meanings of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lecture- ship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Economics, under the direction of the Professor of Economics, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Economics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Economics.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER IX.
Lectureship in Microelectronics (Part-time)

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Microelectronics to be known as the part-time Lectureship of Microelectronics.
  2. A stipend shall not be payable in respect of the said part-time Lectureship, which shall not be a pensionable office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to Lecture in Micro- electronics, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Microelectronics, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Microelectronics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Microelectronics.
  4. The said part-time Lectureship shall be tenable only by a member of the scientific staff of the National Microelectronics Research Centre in the College. The provisions of Statute 34, Chapter I., sections 4 and 5 shall not apply to the filling or re-filling of the said Lectureship.

CHAPTER X.

The Professorship, Associate Professorships and Lectureships hereby established shall, subject to the provisions contained in this Statute, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorship, Associate Professorships and Lectureships had been included in Statutes 1 to 160 of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER XI.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes 1 - 160 of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute 161 of University College, Cork or Stat. 161 of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute will come into operation on the thirtieth day of June, 1992.
