Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-eighth day of November, 1989.

Statute CLII. (152)

Schedule

Statutes I. to CLI., (1 to 151), of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Department of Accounting and Finance

The Department of Accounting shall henceforth be known as the Department of Accounting and Finance.

CHAPTER II.
Associate Professorship of Accounting

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, an Associate Professorship of Accounting.

  2. The said Associate Professorship shall be in the Department of Accounting and Finance and shall be a full-time office within the meanings of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Associate Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII. (132), Chapter I., section 4(c), as amended.

  3. The duties of the Associate Professor shall be to lecture in Accounting, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Associate Professor shall also examine in Accounting for the College and, if required by the Senate to do, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance.

  4. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in this or any other Statute, the said Associate Professor shall not be eligible for appointment to Deputy to the President or as Acting President of the College.

  5. The said Associate Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX. (79), as amended.

CHAPTER III.
Department of Management and Marketing

The Department of Management shall henceforth be known as the Department of Management and Marketing.

CHAPTER IV.
Professorship of Management, No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Management, No. 2.

  2. The said Professorship shall be in the Department of Management and Marketing and shall be a full-time office within the meanings of the Statute of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII. (132), Chapter I., section 4(a), as amended.

  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Management . under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Management and Marketing, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The said Professor shall also examine in Management for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The Governing Body, having considered any views submitted by the Academic Council, following consultation with the relevant Faculties, may determine what speciality or specialities, if any, are to be deemed to be included in the subject Management for the purposes of the provision of this section.

    Provided that it may ordinarily so determine only when the Professorship is vacant
    and
    Provided that should the Governing Body wish to so determine at any other time, it will do so only after consultation with the holder of the said Professorship and that any such determination shall be by way of the addition of speciality or specialities and not by the deletion of any speciality or specialities previously determined while the office was vacant.

  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX. (79), as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER V.
Professorship of Marketing

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Marketing.

  2. The said Professorship shall be in the Department of Management and Marketing and shall be in a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII. (132), Chapter I., section 4(a), as amended.

  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Marketing under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Management and Marketing, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The said Professor shall also examine in Marketing for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.

  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX. (70), as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Marketing

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Marketing.

  2. The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Management and Marketing and shall be a full-time office within the meanings of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII. (132), Chapter I. section 7(a), as amended.

  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Marketing under the direction of the Head of the Department of Management and Marketing, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The said Lecturer shall also examine in Marketing for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the said Head of the Department of Management and Marketing.

  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX. (79), as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER VII.
Abolition of Certain Full-time Statutory Offices

The following full-time Statutory Offices, established by the Statutes indicated in parentheses, are hereby abolished:

Associate Professorship of Electrical Engineering (Statute CI. (101), Chapter IV.)
Lectureship in Accounting, No. 3 (Statute CXXXIII. (133), Chapter VII.)
Lectureship in Anatomy, No. 2 (Statute LXXVI. (76), Chapter I.)
Lectureship in Biochemistry, No. 2 (Statute LXXX. (80), Chapter IX,)
Lectureship in Old and Middle English (Statute LXXXVII. (87), Chapter V.)
Lectureship in Mathematics, No. 4 (Statute LXXVI. (76), Chapter VI.)
Lectureship in Irish Language and Literature, No. 2 (Statute LXXIV. (74), Chapter VI. as amended by statute CXXIII. (123) Chapter V.)
Lectureship in Zoology, No. 2 (Statute LXXX. (80), Chapter XXIII.)

CHAPTER VIII.
Associate Professorships

The provisions of Statute CXXII. (122), Chapter I., section 1, as already amended, shall hereby be further amended by the substitution of the word "twenty-five" for the word "twenty-four" and by the addition to the Table referred to therein as follows:

Lectureships

The provisions of Statute CXXV. (125), Chapter II., section 1, as already amended, shall hereby be further amended by the substitution of the word "twenty-six" for the word "twenty" and by the addition to the Table referred to in said section as follows:

CHAPTER X.
Lectureship in Computer Science, No. 2

Statute CXLIII. (143), Chapter III. section 2 is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following:

"The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII. (132), Chapter I. section 7(a), as amended".

CHAPTER XI.

The Professorships, Associate Professorship and Lectureships hereby established shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorships, Associate Professorship and Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to CLI. (1 to 151) of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER XII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to CLI. (1 to 151) of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CLII. (152) of University College, Cork or Stat. CLII. (152) of Univ. Coll. Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-eighth day of November, 1989.
