We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this nineteenth day of April, 1988.

Statutes I. to CXLV. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CXLV. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships and of the Officers of the College shall be increased as from the dates specified and as hereinafter set forth.
The annual stipends of the President, of the full-time Professors and full-time Lecturers and of the full-time Officers shall be increased as from each of the dates, 1 January, 1988, 1 January, 1989, and 1 January, 1990, by 3% of the first IR£6,264 of the stipend and by 2% of the remainder.
The deductions referred to in Statute CXXXII., Chapter I., section 2 (b), as already increased, shall, as from each of the dates, 1 January, 1988, 1 January, 1989, and 1 January, 1990, be further increased by 2%.
The additional amount referred to in Statute CXXXVI. , Chapter I., section 5 (b), as already increased, shall be further increased as from each of the dates, 1 January, 1988, 1 January, 1989, and 1 January, 1990, by 2%.
The annual stipend of the Vice-President shall, as from 1 January, 1988, be IR£3,028, as from 1 January, 1989, be IR£3,094, and as from 1 January, 1990, be IR£3,162.
The annual stipend of the part-time Associate Professorship of Medical Biochemistry shall, as from 1 January, 1988, be IR£4,939, as from 1 January, 1989, be IR£5,048, and as from 1 January, 1990, be IR£5,159.
The annual stipends of the following part-time Lectureships shall, as from the dates indicated by those hereinafter set forth be:

Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., section 2, as already amended, is hereby further amended to the extent that the amount of the Children's Allowances, as from 1 January, 1988, be increased by IR£1 per annum.
The present holder of the Professorship of Social Theory and Institutions having signified his agreement in writing, the provisions of Statute LXXXIII., Chapter I, section 3, shall be amended as follows:
(i) by re-designing said section as Section 3 (a), and
(ii) by the addition thereto of the following sub-section:
"3 (b) Notwithstanding the provisions of the foregoing sub-section, the Governing Body may determine that academic and administrative responsibility for Social Work and Social Administration shall be delegated to the holder of the Associate Professorship of Social Theory and Institutions (Social Work and Social Administration) established by Chapter IV., of this Statute for such period or periods as the Governing Body shall determine. Should the Governing Body, following a review of the arrangements made under the terms of this sub-section, wish to consider altering such arrangements, it will do so only after consultation with the holder of the Professorship of Social Theory and Institutions.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, an Associate Professorship in the Department of Social Theory and Institutions to be known as the Associate Professorship of Social Theory and Institutions (Social Work and Social Administration).
The said Associate Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Associate Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII., Chapter I., section 4 (c), as amended.
(a) The duties of the Associate Professor shall be to lecture in Social Work and Social Administration, under the direction of the Professor of Social Theory and Institutions for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Social Work and Social Administration for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Social Theory and Institutions.
(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of the foregoing sub-section, the Governing Body may determine that the said Associate Professor shall have delegated to him by the Professor of Social Theory and Institutions academic and administrative responsibility for Social Work and Social Administration for such period or periods as the Governing Body shall determine; the Associate professor shall carry out said delegated duties.
(c) The foregoing sub-sections shall be subject to the provisions of Statute CXLIII., Chapter V
Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in this or any other Statute, the said Associate Professor shall not be eligible for appointment as Deputy to the President or as Acting President of the College.
The said Associate Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Management.
The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII., Chapter I section 7(a), as amended
The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Management under the direction of the Head of the Department of Management for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Management for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Head of the Department of Management. The Governing Body may deter- mine what speciality or specialities, if any, are to be deemed to be included in the subject Management for the purposes of the provisions of this section.
The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

Statute CXLIII., Chapter III., section 2, is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following:
"The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII., Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended".
The Associate Professorship and Lectureship hereby established shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Associate Professorship and Lectureship had been included in Statutes I. to CXLV. of University College, Cork.
This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statute I. to CXLV. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CXLVI. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXLVI of Univ. Coll. Cork.
This Statute shall come into operation on the nineteenth day of April, 1988.
