University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this seventh day of July, 1987.

Statute CXLIV. (144)

Schedule

Statutes I. to CXLIII. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CXLIII. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the Professorships, Associate Professorships and Lectureships referred to in this Chapter shall, as from the dates specified, be increased as hereinafter set forth.
  2. The annual stipend of each full-time Associate Professorship and of each full-time Lectureship (with the exception of the Associate Professorships and Lectureships in clinical medical and dental subjects) shall be increased by 17%; one-third of said increase shall be payable as from 1 December, 1986, one-third shall be payable as from 1 December, 1987, and the remaining one-third shall be payable as from 1 July, 1988.

CHAPTER II.
Part- time Associate Professorship of Medical Biochemistry

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, an Associate Professorship in the Department of Medicine to be known as the Associate Professorship of Medical Biochemistry.
  2. The said Associate Professorship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend of the Associate Professorship shall be IR£4,833 per annum.
  3. The duties of the Associate Professorship shall be to lecture in Medical Biochemistry under the direction of the Professor of Medicine for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Medical Biochemistry for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Medicine.
  4. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in this or any other Statute, the said Associate Professor shall not be eligible for appointment as Deputy to the President or as Acting President of the College.
  5. The said Associate Professorship shall be tenable only by a member of the medical or scientific staff of the teaching hospital recognised by the College and the University in which the Professor of Medicine has, as of right, the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female and is the medical practitioner in charge.
  6. The said Associate Professorship shall be in substitution for the existing Lectureship in Medical Biochemistry in the Department of Medicine, established by Statute LXXXIV., Chapter IV. The provisions of Statute XXXIV., Chapter I., section 4, shall not apply.
  7. The said Associate Professorship shall, subject to the foregoing provisions of this Chapter, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Associate Professorship had been included in Statutes I. to CXLIII. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER III.
Part-time Lectureship in Public Administration

Statute LXV., Chapter VI., section 2, is hereby deleted and replaced by the following:

"2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The Governing Body, having determined the quantum of duties to be attached to the Lectureship, shall also determine annually the level of stipend to be attached to the Office, provided that said stipend shall not exceed sixty-five per cent. of the maximum stipend of a full-time Lectureship as set forth in Statute CXXXII., Chapter I., section 7(a), as subsequently amended".

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Geology No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Geology.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be IR£5,628 per annum.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Geology under the direction of the Head of the Department of Geology for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Geology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Head of the Department of Geology.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be in substitution for an existing part-time Assistantship in the Department of Geology and the provisions of Statute XXXIV. Chapter I., section 4 shall not apply.
  5. The said Lectureship shall, subject to the provisions of this Chapter, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Lectureship had been included in Statutes I. to CXLIII. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER V.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statute I., to CXLIII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CXLIV. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXLIV. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the seventh day of July, 1987.
