Statute CXXXI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this nineteenth day of January, 1982.

Statute CXXXI.

Schedule

Statutes I. to CXXX. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments herein- after set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The term "full-time" referred to in this section shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the Professorship from receiving a stipend in respect of an appointment as Consultant from the authority or authorities which may control the hospital or hospitals associated with the College for the purposes of dental education.

    Provided that the prior agreement of the Governing Body to such appointment and stipend is obtained,

    and also

    Provided that the stipend attaching to the Professorship shall be abated by the amount of the stipend attaching to the post as Consultant.

  3. The stipend of the Professorship shall be IR£28,984.
  4. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry (excluding Orthodontics) for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry (excluding Orthodontics) for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the authority or authorities which may control the hospital or hospitals associated with the College for the purposes of dental education. He shall act as Dean of the hospital if so appointed by the relevant hospital authority.
  5. He shall act, if so chosen by the Governing Body, as Director of Dental Studies.
  6. The holder of the said Professorship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations. The provisions of Statute CXVI., Chapter I., shall apply also to the said Professorship.
  7. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  8. The said Professorship shall, subject to the provisions of this Chapter, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorship had been included in Statute I. to CXXX., of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry

With the consent of the present holder of the Lectureship in Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry, the provisions of Statute LXXII., Chapter VII., section 4, as amended by Statute CXXVII., Chapter 1., section 2, shall be replaced by the following:

"4. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry (excluding Orthodontics) under the direction of the Professor of Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry (excluding Orthodontics) for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry".

CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry No. 2.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The term "full-time" referred to in this section shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the Lectureship from receiving a stipend in respect of an appointment as Consultant from the authority or authorities which may control the hospital or hospitals associated with the College for the purposes of dental education.

    Provided that the prior agreement of the Governing Body to such appointment and stipend is obtained,

    and also

    Provided that the stipend attaching to the Lectureship shall be abated by the amount of the stipend attaching to the post as Consultant.

  3. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be IR£24,470.
  4. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Conservative Dentistry under the direction of the Professor of Conservative Dentistry for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Conservative Dentistry for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the authority or authorities which may control the hospital or hospitals associated with the College for the purposes of dental education.
  5. The holder of the said Lectureship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultation. The provision of Statute CXVI., Chapter I., shall apply also to the said Lectureship.
  6. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  7. The said Lectureship shall, subject to the provisions of this Chapter, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Lectureship had been included in Statute I., to CXXX., of University College, Cork.

Lectureship in Orthodontics

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Orthodontics.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The term "full-time" referred to in this section shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the Lectureship from receiving a stipend in respect of an appointment as Consultant from the authority or authorities which may control the hospital or hospitals associated with the College for the purposes of dental education.

    Provided that the prior agreement of the Governing Body to such appointment and stipend is obtained,

    and also

    Provided that the stipend attaching to the Lectureship shall be abated by the amount of the stipend attaching to the post as Consultant.

The term "full-time" referred to in this section shall not be interpreted as precluding the holder of the Lectureship from receiving a stipend in respect of an appointment as Consultant from the authority or authorities which may control the hospital or hospitals associated with the College for the purposes of dental education.

    Provided that the prior agreement of the Governing Body to such appointment and stipend is obtained,

    and also

    Provided that the stipend attaching to the Lectureship shall be abated by the amount of the stipend attaching to the post as Consultant.

The duties shall include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office as shall be agreed between the College and the authority or authorities which may control the hospital or hospitals associated with the College for the purposes of dental education.
  5. The holder of the said Lectureship shall be precluded from engaging in private practice in any form or accepting, directly or indirectly, payments in respect of consultations. The provisions of Statute CXVI., Chapter I., shall apply also to the said Lectureship.
  6. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  7. The said Lectureship shall, subject to the provisions of this Chapter, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Lectureship had been included in Statute I., to CXXX., of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER VI.
Dental Research Fund

Statute CXVI., Chapter I., section 2, is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following Professorships and Lectureships :

Professorship of Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry
Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry No. 2
Lectureship in Orthodontics
Lectureship in Dental Prosthetics

CHAPTER VII.
Professorship of Archaeology

  1. The provisions of this Chapter shall henceforth apply to the Professorship of Archaeology established by Statute I., Chapter XIII., section 1.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CIX., Chapter I., section 4(a), as amended.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in archaeology for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Archaeology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER VIII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I., to CXXX., of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CXXXI. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXXXI., of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the nineteenth day of January, 1982.
