Statute CXXI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statute CXXI.

Schedule

Statutes I. to CXX. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Stipends of certain posts in the Medical Faculty

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CXX. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the full-time Professorships and full-time Lectureships set out in this Chapter shall, as from the date specified hereunder, be those hereinafter set forth.

  2. The annual stipend of each of the full-time Professorships set out in this sub-section shall, as from the dates indicated, be as set out in the column entitled "stipend".

    Provided that the total of the annual stipend herein provided and the annual salary payable to the holder as Consultant by the Southern Health Board shall not exceed the amounts set out in the column entitled "total stipend and salary".

  4. The annual stipend of each of the full-time Professorships set out in this section, subject to the provisions of Statute CXX., Chapter I., section 4, shall:

    (a) as from 1 April, 1977, be £15,845;
    (b) as from 1 November, 1977, be £16,066;
    (c) as from 1 March, 1978, be £17,351;
    (d) as from 1 April, 1978, be £17,524;
    (e) as from 1 March, 1978, be £17,874.

    Professorship of Orthodontics
  5. The annual stipend of each of the full-time Lectureships set out in this section, subject to the provisions, of Statute CXX., Chapter I., sections 5 and 6 shall:

    (a) as from 1 April, 1977, be £13,674;
    (b) as from 1 November, 1977, be £13,895;
    (c) as from 1 March, 1978, be £15,007;
    (d) as from 1 April, 1978, be £15,100;
    (e) as from 1 March, 1979, be £15,484.

    Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry, Lectureship in Dental Surgery, Lectureship in Preventive Dentistry.

CHAPTER II.
Ex-Gratia Pensions for Certain Widows

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CXX. of University College, Cork, the Governing Body may, in its absolute discretion make provision for the payment of ex-gratia pensions to certain widows in accordance with the provision of this Chapter.

  2. The widows to whom the provisions of this Chapter apply are the widows of full-time pensionable staff, who being at least 60 years of age retired from the employment of the College or who retired from the employment of the College on grounds of ill-health or who died in the employment of the College and who are not in receipt of a pension from the College.

    Provided that the events referred to in this section occurred before 1 April, 1966.

  3. For the purpose of the provisions of this Chapter, widow means in relation to an employee who died before retirement the person who was his wife at the time of his death. In relation to a retired employee widow means the person who was his wife both at the time of his retirement and of his death. A pension payable to a widow under the provision of this Chapter shall cease on her death or re-marriage.

  4. An ex-gratia pension shall be payable from a date not earlier than 1 January, 1979.

CHAPTER III.
Part-time Professorship - Office of Registrar

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a part-time Professorship (untitled) in the Faculty, Department and subject which shall be assigned as the Governing Body shall decide.

  2. The holder of the part-time Professorship shall be the holder of the Office of Registrar in the College and shall hold office for as long as he holds the Office of Registrar.

  3. A stipend shall not be payable in respect of the said part-time Professorship.

  4. The said part-time Professorship shall not be a pensionable office.

CHAPTER IV.
Registrar

  1. The annual stipend of the Registrar shall, as from 1 January, 1979, be £12,191 and shall, as from 1 March, 1979, be £12,435.

  2. The duties of the Registrar shall include responsibility for the supervision and/or the co-ordination of such administrative services as the Governing Body may from time to time determine notwithstanding the absence of reference to such services in the duties of the Registrar as set forth in Statute XCVI., Chapter VII., or elsewhere in these statutes.

CHAPTER V.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to CXXI. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXXI. of Univ. Coll. Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twentieth day of February, 1979.
