Statute CIX.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statute CIX.

Schedule

Statutes I. to CVIII. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends

  1. Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CVIII. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the professorships, readerships and lectureships set forth in this chapter and of the Officers of the College shall, as from 1 June, 1976, be those hereinafter set forth.

  2. The annual stipend of the president shall be £14,230. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £1,077 per annum. In addition, he shall receive a non-pensionable allowance in respect of the expenses of his office, the annual amount of such allowance to be £1,691.

  3. The annual stipend of the Registrar shall be the same as that provided in section 4. (a) of this Chapter. The present holder of this office shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light, valued for pension purposes at £1,077. The Governing Body may at its discretion pay a cash allowance equivalent to the pensionable value of residence, fuel and light.

  4. Subject to section 8 of this Chapter, the annual stipend of readerships shall be as set out in Column A of the Second Appendix annexed hereto.

  5. The annual stipend of each of the offices of Finance Officer and Secretary, of College Engineer and Planning Officer, of Dean of Student Affairs and of Librarian shall be the same as that provided in section 4. (a) hereof.

  6. The minimum stipend specified in each column in the First and Second Appendices annexed hereto shall be paid in respect of the first year of the appointment and each of the subsequent stipends points shall respectively be payable as from each of the annual anniversaries of the date of appointment until the maximum stipend is payable and said maximum stipend shall thenceforth be payable.

    Provided that the Governing Body, on the recommendation of the President, shall have power to determine that any stipend point may be paid in respect of the first year of appointment to a holder of a full-time statutory office with special professional experience, on the occurrence of such an event, the subsequent stipend points shall respectively be payable as from each of the annual anniversaries of the date of appointment until the maximum stipend is payable and said maximum stipend shall thenceforth be payable.

  7. The annual stipend of each of the part-time lectureships set out in this section shall, as from 1 June, 1976, be as follows:

CHAPTER II.
Increased Pensions

  1. The Governing Body has in accordance with the provision of Clause 8 of the Pensions Scheme annexed to Statute LXXIX., reviewed the pensions payable to retired participants in the Scheme and to the widows of former participants or retired participants. In consequence thereof the following revised annual pensions shall be payable as from 1 July, 1976.

CHAPTER III.
Faculty of Dairy Science
Professorship of Dairy and Food Economics

  1. The Professorship of Dairy Accounting and Dairy Economics, established by Statute XLIII., Chapter I(a) is hereby abolished.

  2. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Dairy and Food Economics.

  3. The said professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 4. (a) of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended, shall also apply to this office.

  4. The duties of the professor shall be to lecture in Dairy & Food Economics including Dairy & Food Management and Marketing, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Dairy & Food Economics, including Dairy & Food Management and Marketing, for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.

  5. The said professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

  6. The said Professorship shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been included in Statutes I. to CVIII. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Music

Statute LXXX., Chapter XVII., section 3, is hereby deleted and replaced by the following:

"3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in music under the direction of the Professor of Music for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in music for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office, as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Music".

CHAPTER V.
Faculties

Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the subject Dairy and Food Economics to the Faculty of Dairy Science.

CHAPTER VI.

  1. This statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to CVIII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CIX. of University College, Cork or Stat. CIX. of Univ. Coll. Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-ninth day of June, 1976.
