As Head of the Department and Dean of the Faculty of Law, I am delighted to welcome you to our website, where we hope you will learn everything you need to know about the study of law at UCC.
The Faculty of Law at UCC is a dynamic and exciting place to study, to research and to learn about all aspects of law.
The Faculty has many expert, committed lecturers, who will teach you about many aspects of law and the legal system, and we have excellent facilities –dedicated teaching venues and a Moot Court room for example – to help you make the most of your learning experience.

At UCC, we are committed to excellence in the teaching of law. We have always led the way in the development among our law students of core, widely transferable legal skills, like Moot Court, which teaches communication and advocacy skills important in a court room but indispensable in any career. Studying on our BCL programmes, you will learn all about legal subjects like Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and EU Law and you can specialise in areas like Family Law, Human Rights, Finance, International law and Environmental law. On our three-year programme, the BCL, you can match Law with a language or a range of business subjects like Accounting or Management for example. Or if you want to choose a more specialist degree, we have four-year programmes that enable you to combine your law degree with a degree in French or Irish (BCL Law and French or BCL Law and Irish), gain work experience during your third year (BCL Clinical), or study at one of our prestigious partners in China, Europe or the United States (BCL International).
At postgraduate level we offer the popular one year LLB degree, the LLM degree and a host of specialist programmes in Criminal Justice, Human Rights, Intellectual Property and E-Commerce, and Child and Family Law. We also offerIreland’s only LLM degree for legal professionals (LLM Practitioner). We haveIreland’s biggest PhD programme, with dedicated facilities and individual supervision to ensure that the next generation of academics receive the best training and support. We have a growing international student body at the Faculty and in recent times have developed specialist programmes for visitors fromChina, Erasmus students from Europe and JYA students from theUS.
Law at UCC has a number of distinguished graduates who have gone on to prestigious careers in the legal professions, the judiciary, the civil service, in non-governmental organisations and in international institutions like the EU and the UN. Come and join us and see how you can leave your mark.
