Careers Information
The BCL (Hons) Degree is a primary Law Degree with a wide range of compulsory and optional legal subjects and some non-law subjects.It is not designed only for intending barristers or solicitors and it does not entitle holders to practise Law as members of either branch of the legal profession.The BCL (Hons) (Law and French), the BCL (Hons) (Law and German) and the BCL (Hons) (Law and Irish) Degrees contain equivalent proportions of law and language and cultural studies over a 4-year period of study.The Third year is spent in a French or German law university, or on placement in an Irish –speaking agency in Ireland.These degrees do not entitle holders to practise Law as members of either branch of the legal profession. The BCL (Hons) (Clinical) Degree is a four-year degree, the Third Year of which is spent on placement, either nationally or abroad, with an appropriate legal body or organisation.It does not entitle holders to practise Law as members of either branch of the legal profession.The BCL (Hons) (International) Degree is a four-year degree, the Third Year of which is spent abroad at a European or North American university law school as an integral element in the degree programme.It does not entitle holders to practise Law as members of either branch of the legal profession.
Barristers

Solicitors
The legal education and professional training of solicitors is the responsibility of the Law Society of Ireland. Southern Law Association C.V. Register
A register of the CVs of law students and law graduates of University College Cork is held by the Law Faculty Liaison Committee and is available to all solicitors in the Cork City and County area for inspection.Students are invited to hand a copy of their CV into the Law Department office for this purpose or to email same to am.curtin@ucc.ie
Legal Practice in the U.K.
There are several different methods to entering the legal profession in the United Kingdom. Provided you take the appropriate courses, a standard BCL degree will suffice, otherwise you have several options such as a legal practice course, a training contract, a professional skills course or admission as a solicitor.
