This year the Faculty of Law Essay Competition Awards Ceremony was held on Thursday, 19th January 2012, in the Council Room, North Wing to present the winners with their €200 cheques. Representatives from all participating schools as well as lecturers from UCC’s Department of Law were invited to attend. A welcome address was given by the Dean, Professor Steve Hedley, and a panel of experts in the various fields spoke on the different topics and outlined why each individual essay was seen to have stood out from its competitors. Competition was stiff and an unprecedented number of entries were received from all over the country.

The Faculty of Law at UCC invites all senior cycle students to submit an essay of approximately 1,000 words on one of a number of topics considered pertinent to modern day life in Ireland. The purpose of the competition is to encourage students to consider the relevance and impact of law on their lives and society generally. Entries are welcome in both English and Irish.
