Law Boot Camp 2010

Due to the phenomenal success of the inaugural Law Faculty Boot Camp a second Boot Camp was run over the Spring Mid-term break.  This provided an additional opportunity for Leaving Certificate students interested in the study of Law at UCC, to attend lectures and experience life as a student for a day.

LA Federal District Court Externship programme

Conferring of postgraduate degrees in Law

Friday March 26th saw the conferring of one PhD degree and one LLM research degree in Law. The successful graduates join a growing number from the Law Faculty postgraduate research programme which has seen a significant and successful expansion over the last six years reflecting the international reputation of the Faculty for research excellence.

CCJHR IV Annual Postgraduate Conference: Borders of Justice: Locating the Law in Times of Transition.

The Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights at UCC will host its fourth annual postgraduate conference on Thursday, 29 April, 2010.

The Conference will be taking place in Brookfield Health Sciences Building on College Road. Registration is at 9 am.

The theme for this year's event is "Borders of Justice: Locating the Law in Times of Transition." The aim is to reflect upon how reactionary law making and the related rhetoric of crisis impact negatively on fundamental rights protection and the criminal law. We hope that this theme will encourage debate on the challenging and complex questions which arise when defining the remit of the law in changing and turbulent times.

The fourth annual Conference of the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights took place on Thursday the 29th April. The Theme for this year's event was "Borders of Justice: Locating the Law in Times of Transition" and the various papers which were presented reflected upon how reactionary law making and the related rhetoric of crisis impact negatively on fundamental rights protection and the criminal law as well as many related topics.

We are pleased to announce that the Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday, 20th January, at 5pm in the Council Room, North Wing, UCC.  All entrants are welcome to attend.  Please RSVP before attending (lawfac@ucc.ie or 021-4903249).

The closing date has been extended to December 1st, 2010

The Faculty of Law invites all post-junior certificate students to submit an essay of approximately 1,000 words, The purpose of the competition is to encourage students to consider the relevance and impact of law on their lives and society generally. The best essay(s) in each topic will receive a prize of €200 minimum.

The LLM (Practitioner), a collaboration between the Faculty of Law UCC and the Law Society of Ireland, was launched at a reception in UCC on Thurs 17th June last. This programme has been designed to provide legal practitioners (solicitors and barristers) with an opportunity to complete a masters in law either on a part-time or full-time basis.
